CSJMU Kanpur Achieves Category 1 Status; UGC Recognition and Governor's Commendation

New Delhi: Governor Anandiben Patel congratulated Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, for attaining Category 1 status in the recent University Grants Commission (UGC) evaluation. 

This achievement positions CSJMU as the second university in the state, following Lucknow University, to receive recognition under UGC regulations designed to bestow autonomy upon high-performing institutions.

The UGC meticulously reviewed and processed CSJMU's proposal, ultimately endorsing the university's Category 1 status during its 577th meeting on February 13, 2024. Consequently, CSJMU is entitled to all the associated benefits outlined in Clause 4, which defines the dimensions of autonomy for Category 1 universities. 

However, the university must promptly inform the commission of the implemented benefits and any altered status, as applicable, by Regulation 6 of the UGC [Categorisation of Universities (only) for Grant of Graded Autonomy] Regulations, 2018.

Governor Anandiben Patel acknowledged CSJMU's recent accolade of an A+ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and an exceptional Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.57. 

She commended the university's consistent dedication to quality improvement, emphasising their enhanced capabilities from continuous hard work. Patel underscored that CSJMU's elevated ranking was a testament to sustained efforts and commitment.

Expressing his delight, CSJMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak congratulated the students, teachers, and administrative staff for their collective efforts contributing to the university's Category 1 recognition by the UGC. He highlighted this achievement as placing CSJMU among the top 10% of universities nationwide, underscoring the payoff of relentless hard work and dedication across the university community.
