CLAT 2027 Registration Expected in August 2026 Reforms Report Awaited

The Consortium of National Law Universities (Consortium of NLUs) has indicated that Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 registration will open in August 2026. Applications will be accepted on the official portal at consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

The exam is tentatively scheduled for December 2026. The Consortium has not released the Expert Committee report yet. The report was submitted to the Advisory Board on February 2, 2026.

Professor Tarunabh Khaitan, Co-Chair of the Expert Committee, confirmed the report's submission. He spoke to Bar and Bench in a written response. He also disclosed that the panel had urged the Consortium to release it.

The Consortium responded that there are no updates as of now. It added that any changes will be published on the website. Aspirants have been waiting four months for clarity on the reforms.

The Advisory Board was chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Indu Malhotra. It constituted the panel after its 4th Advisory Board Meeting. The Committee brought together five academics from three countries.

The Consortium had also invited public feedback through a Google form. The form remained open from October 15 to November 4, 2025. Aspirants had earlier written to Prof Khaitan using a common template.

In his reply, he confirmed the February 2 submission to the Consortium. He clarified that further action now rested entirely with the Consortium. He directed all queries to the Consortium directly.
