What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

My leadership philosophy is to lead by motivating, inspiring and pushing people to aspire for excellence. Similar to the teachings of Aristotle, I believe selflessness above everything is what we should strive for in the human race and this is what we intend to impart to our students studying at IFA.

How does the curriculum of the College ensure the best practice of industry?

The curriculum and pedagogy being practised at IFA are globally comparable and incorporate the best art and design mentoring methods in classrooms. It is designed to promote students’ participation in national and state-level competitions.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Institution and the students are?

My role at IFA has several major objectives, that my team and I work towards. Firstly we educate needy and deserving students from disadvantaged families, thus enabling them to make meaningful contributions to the world of art, fashion and design. We also want to promote Indian art and culture globally through the works of our students while instilling a strong sense of self-confidence in students at IFA to create works of excellence.

What would you like people to know about your Institute they may not know?

Mr Satish Kumar Modi and his wife Mrs Abha Modi founded the Institute of Fine Arts Modinagar in the year 2000. Mr Modi had a few philanthropic objectives for the institute which were to enable the disadvantaged to earn a decent living through quality education in art and design. IFA aspires to empower creative students through interactive classroom studies and participation in social outreach programmes at State and National forums while also helping build their competitive confidence. The Management is eternally grateful to its teachers for equipping student and artists with the right skills to transform their lives.

Any insights into how your Institute could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

IFA already practices a no discrimination policy on the basis of gender/race/caste bias. We welcome all students provided they are fluent in either English or Hindi and have taken the languages in XII board examinations.

What do you think should be the Institution’s top priority over the next 10 Years?

According to me, the top priority of the Institute of Fine Arts over the next ten years should be to undo the damaging effects of Covid on admissions. We plan to do so by setting a goal of admitting 120 or more students every year to the institute.

What do you see as your college’s greatest strengths?

Our college’s greatest strength lies in helping students get their degrees from a NAAC A++ accredited university. The Institute has been founded by the philanthropic Modi Trust and boasts of a team of faculty who are well-qualified with years of experience. Over the past decade, we have had around eight to ten British teachers from the Royal Drawing School, London and the University of Arts, London visit for ten to twelve weeks each year. They tutor and provide expert guidance to the IFA students. In the current year, we are in the process of re-inviting teachers from the Royal Drawing School, London to commence their visits. This academic collaboration is exclusive to the Institute of Fine Arts that sets it apart from competition.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for your college specifically?

Self-financed institutes such as the Institute of Fine Arts face a major challenge in sustaining themselves amidst the increasing costs, especially since the institute regulates the fees that can be charged.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

I would like to suggest to our youth to conceive and create new ideas while communicating them with passion.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in Institute?

At IFA we have a no-closed-doors policy for anyone. This means the students and the teachers can walk into the Directors’ office or the managers’ Office at any time to discuss their ideas or problems. This helps fosters a friendly and supportive environment on the campus.
