Mr. Keshav Lahoti is the Head of the Art and Design Department at X-Gen College Of Visual Art. He earned his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship. Mr. Lahoti did his Masters in Fine Art from Kerala University, Thiruvananthapuram. He has great skills in painting and Drawing. He participated in various workshops and worked as a Guest Art Teacher in various institutes.

What do you see as the biggest challenges facing higher education today, and how do you think your institution is addressing those challenges?

Today, the biggest challenges in higher education include ensuring accessibility, adapting to digital learning trends, and aligning curriculum with evolving job markets. Our institution addresses these challenges through scholarship programs for underrepresented students, blended learning models that combine online and in-person instruction, and dynamic course updates that integrate industry-relevant skills. By promoting inclusivity, embracing technology, and fostering real-world applicability, we’re equipping students to thrive in a rapidly changing educational landscape and global economy.


What do you see as the biggest challenges facing higher education today, and how do you think your institution is addressing those challenges?

In India, higher education faces challenges like access disparities, outdated curricula, and employability gaps. Our institution tackles these issues through scholarship initiatives, online learning platforms for remote accessibility, and industry collaborations to design relevant courses. By focusing on inclusivity, modernization, and practical skill development, we empower students to overcome challenges and excel in a competitive global environment.

In my role, decision-making involves thorough analysis and collaboration. I gather input from various stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff, and relevant experts. Balancing their needs requires transparent communication, seeking common ground, and aligning decisions with our institution’s mission. I ensure that decisions are well-informed, fair, and aligned with our long-term goals, fostering a sense of inclusivity and shared ownership in the decision-making process.


Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

To the youth and aspiring students, I encourage you to embrace curiosity and be open to new experiences. Pursue your passions relentlessly, but also be willing to adapt and learn from challenges. Seek mentors, stay resilient, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Your journey is a canvas waiting for your unique strokes of creativity and determination. Embrace each opportunity as a chance to grow, and remember that success is often built on a foundation of hard work, continuous learning, and unwavering perseverance.


Can you describe any specific measures or programs that your institution has implemented to address the rising mental health issues and stress among students in India?

At our X-Gen College of Visual Art, we prioritize students’ well-being through comprehensive measures. We offer counseling services with trained professionals, organize stress-relief workshops, and promote a supportive campus environment. Our mindful art program combines creative expression with mental health awareness. Additionally, we encourage open dialogue on mental health, collaborate with mental health organizations, and ensure faculty undergo sensitivity training. By fostering a holistic approach to education, we aim to address and alleviate mental health challenges, ensuring students can flourish academically, artistically, and emotionally.


What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a career in higher education administration and how do you see the field evolving in the years to come? 

For those aspiring to higher education administration, I recommend educating a deep passion for education, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills. Seek mentorship and gain experience in various roles within academia. As for the art and animation field, it’s poised for dynamic growth. Emerging technologies like AI, VR, and AR will redefine creative boundaries. Cross-disciplinary collaboration, diverse cultural influences, and global connectivity will shape innovative artistic expressions. Adapting to these changes and staying at the forefront of technological advancements will be key to thriving in this evolving landscape.
