Dr. Birendra Goswami is the Director of Training & Placement Cell at Sai Nath University, Ranchi. He is an accomplished academic and expert in computer science, with a specialization in cloud computing security. He holds a master's degree from BIT Mesra and further pursued an MPhil and PhD in the same field. Dr. Goswami has a substantial academic background and has authored numerous research papers. His expertise in the field led to his recognition as a keynote speaker at the Asia Summit in Singapore in 2012. Currently, he serves as the Director of Training and Placement at Sai Nath University, where he combines his 23 years of experience in academics and administration. Additionally, he is a dedicated professor of computer application, imparting knowledge and skills in this dynamic field.

Being the director of the training and placement cell, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

As the Director of the Training and Placement cell, my role is crucial in several aspects:

  • Bridging the gap between academic learning and practical industrial requirements.
  • Developing a comprehensive placement strategy aligned with the university's academic goals and industrial collaborations.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong ties with industry leaders and business organizations for collaboration and potential placement opportunities.
  • Providing career counselling and guidance to our students to help them understand their strengths, interests, weaknesses, and career goals.
  • Designing and implementing training programs that enhance the employability and skills of our students.
  • Facilitating intrinsic opportunities for our students in various industries and corporations.
  • Organizing on-campus placement drives and job fairs.

How does the curriculum of the university ensure the best practice of industries?

Nowadays, all companies are embracing technology and Industry 4.0, incorporating advancements such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their operations. Therefore, our university places a strong emphasis on aligning our curriculum with industry best practices. We are actively working to adapt our syllabus to align with Industry 4.0, ensuring that our students are well-prepared for the latest technology and can seamlessly transition into the corporate world. Integrating Industry 4.0 into our syllabus equips students to confidently tackle the challenges in the corporate and industrial sectors.

What are the initiatives taken by the university for the students so that they will get placed in good companies? Kindly highlight the placement statistics of the university.

Initiatives taken from our end include conducting effective virtual interviews, utilizing assignment tools for screening and establishing pre-placement connections with the students. These efforts aim to ensure that students can smoothly navigate and succeed in their interviews.

In terms of placement statistics, we have secured placements with various companies across different branches. For agriculture, we have placed students with organizations such as Mandi Mitra, Jal Jivika, Reliance Retail, TechFarm, and more. In the computer application department, we have successfully placed two students with Wipro Technologies in the 2023 session, along with opportunities at Amdocs, Baju’s, Vedant Assets Private Limited, and others.

Moving on to the Management department, our students have found placements with notable companies like Link Lock, Baju’s, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Mahindra and Mahindra Motors, TATA Motors, Shree Cement Ltd, Flipkart, and more.

In the diploma engineering field, we've secured placements with companies like GIS Technology, Oriman Surveys, Sridhar Construction, Bajaj Motors, TVS Motors, SKG Group, SNL Bearings, Maruti Suzuki Udyog Private Limited, Usha Martin, and others. These are the companies where our students have been effectively placed and are currently working.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

In our university, the environment is very friendly and highly cooperative, as well as well-disciplined. We encourage students to step out of their comfort zones and actively work on building their self-awareness by providing opportunities for work-integrated learning. These are the unique features that we offer to our students.

What do you see as the greatest strength of this university?

The greatest strength of our university lies in its ability to multitask and its flexibility. It is a well-structured institution where we adhere to the university's hierarchy. If any student faces any type of problem, we engage in one-on-one interactions with our students. Additionally, each branch and section of our classes has a class mentor who addresses the issues of every student individually.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

We have established various MOUs with companies and industries. Our forthcoming collaboration with Maruti Suzuki Company will introduce a course in the BBA integrated retail management program. This initiative is designed to offer our students invaluable exposure to the actual working culture within the industry, enabling them to acquire practical insights and experience. As mentioned earlier, we are emphasizing Industry 4.0 to ensure our students are well-prepared for upcoming technologies and the advanced technological work culture in the industry.

Any suggestion would you like to give to the current youth and aspiring students

My suggestion to our students is to develop skills and knowledge, cultivate ownership and leadership qualities, maintain a positive attitude, and show respect to their parents, elders, and everyone they encounter, as everyone deserves respect. A student should begin by setting a clear goal and then remain focused on that goal to pave the way for a brighter future. In today's fast-paced world, many students seek shortcuts, but my message to them is not to rely on shortcuts. Instead, they should embrace hard work, as it is the only path to success.
