New Delhi: BITSoM Mumbai, the BITS School of Management, has appointed Saravanan Kesavan as its new dean. With 16 years of experience, Kesavan previously worked at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, where he also held the position of associate dean at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

His educational background includes a PhD in technology and operations management from Harvard Business School, advanced degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a B-Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras. Kesavan assumes the role of dean, succeeding BITSoM's founding dean, Ranjan Banerjee

Kesavan is widely recognized for his outstanding teaching prowess within the MBA program at the Kenan-Flagler Business School. His teaching excellence is underscored by receiving the MBA All Star Teaching Award a remarkable 14 times and being the recipient of the prestigious Weatherspoon Award for Excellence in MBA Teaching.

Furthermore, Kesavan has been acknowledged as the top teacher for Core Teaching by the Indian School of Business.

Kesavan, a committed researcher, has made notable contributions published in esteemed journals such as Management Science, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (MSOM), and Production and Operations Management.

His research has gained recognition in mainstream media outlets like The New York Times, The Economist, and Forbes, and was even acknowledged in the 2022 Economic Report of the US President.

Commenting on the transition, BITS Pilani Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla stated that Dr. Banerjee, as a key member of the founding team, played a pivotal role in establishing a solid groundwork for BITSoM while nurturing strong connections with both students and corporate partners.

Birla added that Ranjan Banerjee played a pivotal role in spearheading initiatives like the customized personal development program, mentorship program, the management ideas festival known as 'Beacon,' and in establishing a strong and effective career services team.
