More About the Winners of the “Mumbai Design Thinking Challenge”

The top prize of INR 2.5 lakh was secured by 'Fineapple,' a team of young professionals from Mumbai. The team, consisting of Aishwarya Chodankar (Architect), Paridhi Subbaian Kaliamoorthy (Research Engineer from IIT Bombay), Daksshin Gopalakrishna (Chartered Accountant), and Pranjali Bhagwat (Vice Principal of a school), presented a winning proposal for Urban Agriculture

Their innovative solution, named Plant Lego, features a modular planter system with a honeycomb-like structure. This design maximizes space efficiency, addressing factors such as soil aeration, ease of maintenance, and user-friendliness, ultimately promoting recreation in Mumbai.

NMIMS Bagged the Runners-up of the “Mumbai Design Thinking Challenge”

The runners-up, 'Up-Coming' from NMIMS BSSA, Mumbai, comprised Nandika Shah, Rajvardhan Jain, and Gaurav Shah, securing a prize of INR 1.5 lakh. Additionally, the finalists included 'Dream Team' and 'OG Design Thinkers' from WeSchool.

Following the first round, the jury shortlisted ten teams, engaging them in a comprehensive Masterclass on Design Thinking with Founding Dean Dr. Ranjan Banerjee at the BITSoM campus. The subsequent stage involved mentoring the four finalist teams on presentation skills by Prof. Rajeshwar Upadhyay, culminating in their presentations to an audience of CEOs and CXOs on the Beacon 2023 stage.

Discussing the challenge, Dr. Leena Chatterjee, Professor of Organisational Behaviour at BITSoM, stated that the future leaders must exhibit concern for and contribute to shaping the environment in their operational realms.

Aligning with this philosophy, the Design Thinking Challenge presented an opportunity for the youth of Mumbai to employ the design process in generating ideas that can have a positive impact on the city and its future.
