Bennett University Conducts Annual Model United Nations ‘BUMUN 2.0’

New Delhi: Bennett University hosted the second edition of Annual Model United Nations, ‘BUMUN 2.0’ from May 5-6, 2023. The event was organised by Cerebrum, the Official Literary and Debating Society in collaboration with the student council, at the university campus.

BUMUN 2.0 organised by Bennett University was attended by around 200 students from more than 20 schools and 15 colleges across Delhi-NCR.

The theme for BUMUN’23 was “Echoes of the Past, Visions for the Future”. It offered a comprehensive approach towards exploring the relationship between history and the aspirations for a better future. A deeper examination of historical events and their impact on current social, political and economic challenges was also a part of the theme.

By understanding the root causes of these issues, participants developed effective solutions that addressed their underlying cause. By exploring new possibilities and considering the long-term impact of the solutions, participants aspired to create a better future for all.

BUMUN 2.0 had four committees with their separate agendas such as: United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), whose agenda was: Addressing Human Rights Violation in conflict zones with special emphasis on proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; United Nations Security Council (UNSC), agenda: Countering cyber warfare and cybersecurity threats with regard to the nation’s security in the era of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, UN office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), agenda: Protecting and rehabilitating victims of transnational organized crime with special emphasis on public-private partnership; All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM), agenda: Constitutional validity of Section 8(3) of the Representation of People’s Act, 1951.

Bennett University Chancellor Vineet Jain said: “BUMUN provides young, bright and innovative minds a platform to debate and brainstorm on issues of global importance. The theme for BUMUN ‘Echoes of the Past: Visions for the Future’ is both timely and relevant, aimed at gaining a greater understanding of seminal historical events and the social, political and economic challenges they pose today. The two-day event explores the art and craft of diplomacy and negotiation that is so critical in holding our world together.”

The conference also gave a chance to the participants to learn about international relations, public speaking and the intricacies of high-stakes diplomacy through hands-on involvement.
