AIIMS Delhi and HSSC Collaborate for Skill Development of Hospital Staff

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has entered into a collaborative agreement with the Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) to enhance the skills of the hospital staff. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between AIIMS Delhi and HSSC aims to provide training, retraining, and upgrading opportunities for different categories of healthcare professionals employed at AIIMS.

According to the AIIMS official memorandum, the HSSC holds recognition as an awarding organization by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), which operates under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The memorandum said that the Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) stated that it evaluates and certifies individuals for skill qualifications in various areas of the healthcare sector, including AYUSH, the social sector, and hospital management services.

The assessment and certification process involves the collaboration of industry experts, academia, line ministries, and regulators. The Director of AIIMS, Dr. M Srinivas, mentioned that the HSSC has expressed its willingness to acknowledge AIIMS as its center of excellence (CoE).

Further, the memorandum revealed that the CoE would assume responsibility for providing leadership, implementing best practices, conducting research, offering support, training trainers, and providing skill training in a specific sector. It also stated that this center would serve as a role model, upholding the highest standards in its operations.

As a center of excellence (CoE), AIIMS announced its intention to collaborate with the Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) to provide skill certification to different categories of its staff, aiming to improve the overall patient experience. The process involves training master trainers at AIIMS by the HSSC, who will then train other staff members.

According to the statement, these training sessions will conclude with a course completion test, and individuals who pass the test will receive skill certification in partnership with the HSSC. The initial focus of training will be on security and housekeeping staff members.

Meanwhile, the memorandum requests the Person in Charge (PIC) of security services and the Officer in Charge (OIC) of housekeeping and sanitation services at the main AIIMS to designate 20 master trainers each for a program scheduled for June 2023. The memorandum further instructs them to submit a list of the nominated master trainers along with their contact details to the office of the director no later than May 30.
