9 IIMs Host Mahatma Gandhi National Fellows Joint Convocation Ceremony 2023;

New Delhi: Leading IIMs including IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Jammu, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Nagpur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Udaipur, and IIM Visakhapatnam have organised the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellows Joint Convocation Ceremony 2023 for 581 scholars.

The event was attended by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Education, and Hon’ble Minister of State, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Prof. T G Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, Shri. K. Sanjay Murthy, IAS Secretary among other government officials.


In addition to this, Prof. Arnab Mukherjee, Program Director of MGNF at IIM Bangalore, Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean of Academics and Program Director of MGNF at IIM Jammu and Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu as well as officials of leading IIMs were present at the event.

Convocation Ceremony Overview

As many as 59 fellows of IIM Kozhikode’s inaugural batch of MGNF – Phase II graduated at a valedictory ceremony. Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode attended the event along with Chief Guest Dr KN Raghavan, Director General of the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN).

From the IIM Jammu cohort, 40 fellows received a certificate in public policy. IIM Jammu held a 5-day pre-convocation workshop for the fellows at the Jagti campus, where the work done by the fellows was presented to strengthen the skill ecosystem.

Addressing the occasion, Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister, said that credits will be provided to the fellows based on their two years of study at IIMs and district immersion. “I have high expectations and unwavering belief that my young friends will embrace skills as their mission to contribute to the realization of a developed India,” Pradhan said.

Participants were awarded public policy and management certifications. They will get their degree in the Academic Bank of Credit. On this occasion, the Union Education Minister congratulated the 581 Mahatma Gandhi fellows on finishing this two-year fellowship term. 

What is MGNF?

IIMs offer the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) or MGNF Certificate Program in Public Policy and Management as a part of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs) collaboration. 

The program is hosted by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Jammu, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, IIM Nagpur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Udaipur, and IIM Visakhapatnam. The admission process is conducted by IIM Bangalore.

The MGNF program's unique design offers fellows academic insights across various domains including economics, management, public policy, research, and finance. In addition to this, participants of this program are offered a monthly stipend throughout the first and second years.
