The Master of Human Interface Technology (MHIT) at the University of Canterbury is a one-year full-time program offered through the Department of Engineering. This innovative program is designed for students who wish to specialize in the design and development of interactive technologies that enhance user experience across sectors such as healthcare, education, entertainment, business, and rehabilitation. The program is closely aligned with UC’s world-renowned HIT Lab NZ (Hangarau Tangata, Tangata Hangarau), providing students with opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research and collaborate with industry through real-world projects and scholarships. Applicants must hold a qualification equivalent to a New Zealand bachelor’s degree with a B grade average in a relevant subject. Indian applicants need a minimum of 60% in each academic year with all prerequisites met. English language requirements include an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0), or equivalent TOEFL, PTE, or DET scores. The MHIT requires the completion of 120 points and equips graduates with strong research and development capabilities, user-centred design knowledge, and experience working in multidisciplinary teams. Indian students with excellent scores are eligible for the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships offers full tuition, living expenses, and travel costs.
