B.Sc Economics from University Of Amsterdam [UNI AMSTERDAM], Amsterdam - Fees & Admission Details 2025

• The courses were moderate to high difficulty level depending on your background. It was a good mix of theory and practice.
• Positives: Very good emphasis on practical assignments, group projects and research opportunities to publish.
• Each class is about 2 hours. In a day, typically you will have 2-3 lectures.
• 200 students on average, 3-6 Indian students

• Tuition fees: 22000
• Living costs: 12000-18000 (assuming decent student life)
• The fee is charged per semester or yearly and you can choose how to pay.
• Monthly expenses include rent, food, groceries, and transportation. Rent is about 500-800 €/month; groceries would be 100€; transportation, if you buy a bike, is a one-time case of 200-400€ or each tram/bus journey costs about 2-3€ on average.

• Course was quite a difficult one. There were some subjects, like Data Science Methods, Machine Learning and Optimisation, and Machine Learning in Finance, which was purely quantitative and exams were based on proof that questions only, which were not so easy to solve.
• Positive impact was that it prepared me to read the latest research papers and understand the maths behind any algorithms. Now I can read any latest AI research paper easily. Negative impact was that it was much more focused on academics, not touching on industry applications for some subjects.

• Tuition fees for the Non-EU Student in my course were 16,500 euros, and hostel charges vary depending upon the student housing you get. There are options of 400 Euro, 510 Euro, 650 euros and 950 Euro approx.
• For international students, charges have to be paid yearly for the master's programme. Can't say about bachelors.
• 300 to 500 Euros considering transportation, food and other expenses. Rent can easily go from 800 to 1500 euros, depending upon the locality.

• Some courses were easy, and some were tough. For all courses, there was enough material and guidance available at all times. 

• The only negative aspect was that for some courses, 2 months felt rushed as they were more complex.

• 15290 euros was the annual tuition fee. (Which has gone upto around 23000 euros this year, if I am not mistaken)
• I paid around 650 euros in rent monthly for a private studio. I received around 210 euros worth of housing allowance from the government which brought my effective rent down to 440 euros. (Please note: Housing allowance is not applicable to all houses, there are several criteria in which the house needs to fall under to be applicable)
• Transportation and groceries would cost additional 500 euros approx.

• The difficulty of the course is at a level where you can’t pass without understanding the material fundamentally. All assignments are a mix of theory and practical work.

• Classes are scheduled during the day, usually from 9 AM to 4 PM. 

• There are around 200 students in each course, and 4 Indian students in my batch. 

• The positive aspects are the depth of learning and practical exposure, but the workload can be heavy at times.

• The fees for my course at the University of Amsterdam are 16,500 EUR per year, so for the entire course, it totals 33,000 EUR.
• The fees are charged annually, so I pay once per year for the whole year.
• As for my monthly expenses:
• Rent comes to about 800 EUR per month.
• Transportation costs around 150 EUR per month.
• Food and groceries add up to roughly 300 EUR per month.
• But yes, if you finish your master's early you can claim a refund for the fees.

• It was pretty difficult. Dutch Universities are notoriously tough. My course was a mix of theory and praxis because I was in the applied track and we had 3 months of fieldwork with an applied output to submit along with our thesis for the course.
• It was academically challenging but also a bit unstructured at times. my course had about one class at a time divided amongst the 4 blocks.
• I have 1-2 classes per week. There are 2 Indian students in my course.

• I had to pay 17000 euros at once. I pay around 500 euros for rent and an additional 500 euros for cost of living.
• Mine is a one year course. We do not have hostels. It is not credit based. In Amsterdam, people usually cycle so transport costs are less.
• If you live in a nearby area, you may incur train charged but that depends on where in the country you live.

• It was majorly practical, with a focus on lots of assignments and projects.
• Positive aspect is that you learn through projects; you are used to tools and techniques that are a vital part of real-world applications.
• Negative aspect is that you need to devote yourself to understanding the basics of those tools so as to have a solid foundation.
• The schedule varies depending on your courses and electives. Usually you have 2 lecture classes and 1 tutorial/practical class for one course every week. A lecture class is two hours with a 15-minute break, while a tutorial class is for an hour.
• My course has around 200 students, but this number may vary for the electives. Around 10 Indian students were enrolled in my course.

• I opted for a Student Accommodation, and is off-campus. In the Netherlands, there is no ON-Campus accommodation.
• I opted for housing accommodations during my application process. So, when I received my acceptance, the university introduced me to a third-party housing provider, wherein I got my room. The process was simple, but the university asked for one-time overhead fees.
• I pay around 500 EUR for a room and bathroom. I share the kitchen with around 5 co-tenants.
• For me, the process was smooth in securing a house there.
• Yes, please go for university-guided student accommodations, as they are very clean and comparatively cheap.
• It is a 30-40 minute ride through public transport. There is no specific area for Indian students, as the housing is allocated randomly based on their selected preference.
   

• Difficulty: The course is definitely challenging! It leans toward an advanced level, especially if you’re not already comfortable with mathematics and statistics. It’s a good mix of both theory and practice: we dive deep into theoretical concepts (like asymptotic properties, proofs, and derivations), but there’s also a strong practical focus through coding assignments.

• Pros and cons:

1. The most positive aspect is the depth and rigor of the material it trains you to think analytically and apply methods to real-world data. The professors are generally very knowledgeable and approachable.

2. The most negative aspect would probably be the workload sometimes the pace is too fast, and the assignments can feel overwhelming, especially when multiple deadlines line up. Also, some courses are heavier on theory than others, which can be tough if you prefer hands-on learning.

• Rent Accommodation: 700-1200 euros.
• Fees are charged annually, with options to loan, scholarship etc.
• Monthly expense: 300-500 euros (food groceries and coffee), 100-120 euros (public transport metro, tram, bus, train), 800-1200 euros (rent)
• Students that get student accommodation save money of rent, but it is a lottery system. 

The course was excellent. No doubts about it. A pleasure studying in the university on international tax law.

The course curriculum was very structured it was presented in a very nice manner. the environment for academia was also very very fruitful they were collaborations between different groups within and outside the university.

There is no tuition fee.

The course syllabus is up to date, with examples and case studies, and understanding business concepts is fun and interesting. The course however is very difficult and intense.
