Great course

I applied to 4 colleges primarily: UvA : University of Amsterdam (Netherlands) ETH Zurich (Switzerland) EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) TU Munich (Germany) I got accepted in 1/2/4 and rejected in 3. I think I did not get into EPFL because they needed a Computer Science Bachelors'. The requirements for UvA, ETH and TUM were not as strict. I got a fully funded scholarship at the University of Amsterdam. Plus, I got in touch with Prof. Cees Snoek there, who was willing to be my research advisor. These two were the main reasons. The admission process was simple: Online application form with attached documents. There was no interview. I got in the first round. There were basic criterion for English (IELTS) The overall admission experience was very smooth. I had to contact their admission team a couple of times and they were responsive. I applied to the Fall intake of 2021 (starts around Sept 2021). I applied in Europe since I wanted to a PhD in one of the EU Labs that I was interested in. The admission deadline was Dec 2020/Jan 2021. The first round results were out in Feb 2021. The scholarship results were out in March/April 2021. I had to accept/decline by May 2021. I applied to 4 colleges. I got acceptance from University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), Tilburg University (Netherlands), University of Limerick (Ireland) From Vrije University (Netherlands), I didn't get acceptance. Reason of this is that there was no Data Science course in the VU, so I applied for the Econometrics program as I think this was the closest to Data Science. All other universities where I got admission had Data Science program and I wanted to get into this program. Plus, my academic background was also suitable for Data Science course. I chose the University of Amsterdam because, first of all, its ranking was better than other universities I applied to. Also, I was looking for a master's program for one year, and in Amsterdam everyone knows English. So, it was clear to me. Admission process is simple. You start by applying in the Studielink (a portal maintained by the Dutch government). Then they check your overall background. there are some courses that you must have studied in your bachelor's to become eligible for a particular master's program. Based on your undergraduate marks, GRE/GMAT and IELTS, they give a Yes/No on your admission decision. For my course, GRE/GMAT was both an option, with preference for GRE. Most of the management-related courses focus on GMAT and quantitative courses focus on GRE. For my course, the Quantitative Section minimum cutoff score was 158 and verbal marks aren't that important. I can't say about other courses. For master's program IELTS score cutoff was overall 6.5 Overall, the admission process was nice. Everything is very much structured and online. However, during admission season, you might get delayed for some of your queries, as many people have questions and University staff take a maximum of 2 weeks to reply to your message. I applied for the September intake. University offers two intakes: September and February. MSc Data Science and Business Analytics is only offered during the month of September. I just applied to this university. Universiteit van Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit (Joint Degree) and got accepted. I did not apply to any other university as I was certain I wanted to be here. The university did not require GRE, which I could not appear for due to my work commitments in India. Hence, I was certain to not apply elsewhere and just apply for this university. I learned about the curriculum through friends (seniors), and I was aware that in the year 2021, the university was focusing on advancements from as recent as 2020, which is what I was looking for. As in India, during bachelor's, we were being taught outdated and obsolete technology every now and then.  The admission process is simple. I required IELTS/TOEFL scores, bachelor's transcripts and a Letter of Intent. The entire VISA process was done by the university, I just had to submit documents on the portal and book myself an appointment in India. Housing is a big challenge in the Netherlands, so it is essential that the students start early; the later they get admitted to the university, the more challenging it will get to find housing. Student housing is available only for the first year of the study, which is also limited; hence start early to have more options open. I applied to Technical University Munich for Computational Science and Engineering and the University of Amsterdam for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. I was accepted to both programs and chose the AI program at UVA, as it was a 2-year course with more detailed content. I wasn't accepted to TUM because I only had an IELTS score, while TUM required the GRE. I chose the University of Amsterdam mainly because it offered the AI program a more detailed and in-depth curriculum. Also, I did some research on the faculty here and I found that the faculty was actually involved in building various tools and packages for AI model training which I felt was amazing. The admission process was pretty standard.  You have to hand in your CV, motivation letter & LORs. Some cases you have to go through an interview too. They also ask for attested certificate copies, but that can likely be done online now. If you're not accepted right in the first round of the results, you get waitlisted and based on your number in the waiting list you might receive an offer later.  The university is quite prompt with queries and the visa process is handled entirely by the university.  In terms of eligibility, you only need to take the IELTS or TOEFL for language proficiency, no GRE required, which makes things simpler. Overall, my experience with the application was pretty good. The only real challenge I faced was with housing. The university uses a lottery system for student accommodation, so it’s all about luck. If you don’t get selected, finding a place on your own can be really tough, especially if you're trying to arrange everything from abroad. University of Amsterdam (Accepted),SOAS (accepted),Glasgow (accepted),Edinburgh (accepted) I did not get rejected from any of the places I applied to. I did get rejected from scholarships that I applied to. I think that my application was not uniquely strong. I was a good candidate to be accepted but not one of the best ones amongst every applicant for the University to want to reduce my tuition fees. I did not want to go to the USA or the UK. Europe and the Netherlands in specific seemed like the best fit for me. I also liked the applied anthropology program because it was unique and there weren't many others like it. I had a writing sample, my CV, IELTS, and an SOP. For my program, I did not have to write GMAT, SATs, etc. The admissions process was quite simple in my opinion. 1. Erasmus University- rejected (Double major econometrics and philosophy, international business, ebe) 2. Tilburg university- admitted (econometrics) 3. Utrecht university- admitted (economics) 4. Maastricht University- admitted (economics) 5. University of Amsterdam - studying (econometrics and data science) I think I got rejected from Erasmus because they are really serious about academia and IB scores (specially english and math). While my math grades were at par, overall they were quite mediocre.  Why UvA?  Shared faculty with Erasmus, great professors, big city feeling.  Admission process:  Step 1: Uploading IB predicted grades, CV and motivation letter. (November) Step 2: I got conditional acceptance in 2 weeks. (December) Step 3: Doing the UvA matching test: this is not a deciding factor for your admission, but compulsory to do as a part of the admission process. (March) Step 4: Submitting final grades (August). Eligibility criteria:  IB requirement: Mathematics AA (Analytics and Approaches) Higher level, minimum 5. English A Standard level, minimum 4.  Admission experience: Out of all universities, UvA's admission process was the quickest.  Highlights: UvA matching gives you a precise idea for what your major is going to look like. Allows you to understand what to expect.  Challenges: Your math scores really matter,  it turned out to be a deciding factor for many. Intake 2023, the biggest challenge with coming to UvA remains to be the housing situation which has played a crucial role in people's ability to remain enrolled. I applied to 3 universities. University of Amsterdam, TU Munich and RWTH Aachen. I was Admitted to the University of Amsterdam but was rejected in the other two. I haven't received the true feedback but it can be due to the educational background, as I don't have adequate technical expertise and work experience. Due to a strong international influence and the courses being crisp, just perfect to sustain the skills required in the real-world setting. After having an IELTS SCORE, I applied to the desired course at the university website within the deadline. Next step is to wait for the outcome. After receiving the results, the university has asked me to confirm the result and later on helped me with the housing and visa application process. Usually they focus on your educational background and your work experience, with a good score in IELTS (MIN. 7 band) and GRE (300+ Score). This may vary based on the course requirements. Overall, the process was smooth, and they are always available via email. I had applied to Fall intake (September). As all the courses are available in that intake compared to other intakes, I chose that intake. The timeline for me is around 3 months from the time of applying to receiving the verdict of the application. However, it depends on application to application based on the waiting list.
