AMU's Department of Computer Science is one of the country's oldest and most innovative departments of computer science and information technology. The department is one of India's fastest growing computer science departments, as evidenced by prestigious rating organizations like Times Higher, India Today, and NIRF.

It began in 1971 with the installation of an IBM1130 computing system under the auspices of the Computer Centre and eventually evolved into an autonomous department known as the "Department of Computer Science" in 1988.

The Department provides Ph.D., M.C.A., M.Sc. (Cyber Security & Digital Forensics), P.G.E.D.P., P.G.D.C.P., and B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Applications program. These programs' curricula are developed with time constraints and the needs of the IT sector in mind.
