- The BA course "Museology and Material Culture" established at the University of Würzburg in the winter semester 2010/11 is the first university course of its kind in Germany. This takes into account the development that museology has emancipated itself internationally from the role of an auxiliary science in recent decades and has long been part of everyday university life as a fully-fledged academic subject in the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Sweden or the Netherlands, for example.
- In this regard, the Würzburg museology is characterized by a close interlocking of scientific research, practical museum work and material science skills, which fundamentally qualifies for all areas of museum practice as well as museum science.
