Rolling Admission

The Göttingen math department offers excellent and manifold opportunities for pursuing a career towards a doctoral degree. Students are integrated into the international and inspiring environment of the department. The spectrum of possible Ph.D. research topics ranges from pure over applied mathematics to mathematical statistics. PhD projects may also be interdisciplinary, with close connections to other disciplines, such as mathematical physics or biophysics.

During the entire program, doctoral candidates are students of the University of Göttingen. Aside from the research program, Ph.D. candidates are additionally required to attend lectures and seminars in order to broaden their knowledge and to acquire new skills. Ph.D. students are also expected to present their research results at international conferences and workshops.
 


Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Master in mathematics; application with a master's degree in natural sciences is possible; confirmation of a faculty member to act as an advisor is required
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is required

Indian Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants whose first language is not English have to prove a good working knowledge of English. Their proficiency in English must be certified in an internationally recognized test.
  • The language test certificate should be no more than two years old at the time of application.
  • Exempted from the requirement to provide proof of language proficiency are students whose first language is English and students with at least two-year study or work experience in an English-speaking country within the last three years.

The minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
