University of Bayreuth offers 30+ scholarships, of which 12+ are accessible to Indian applicants.

Bavaria charges zero tuition at public universities, so scholarships here cover living costs, semester fees and travel, not classroom fees.

  • Standard tuition: €0 per year (only Semesterbeitrag of about €130 per semester)
  • With scholarship support: €300 to €1,300 monthly stipend covers rent, food and health insurance
  • Fee waivers: Not required since public tuition is already zero for all nationalities
  • Next major deadline: Deutschlandstipendium window opens June 8 to June 24, 2026 (tentative annual cycle)

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 EUR = INR 110.69 as of September 2026. Semesterbeitrag is a mandatory administrative fee that funds student services, not tuition.

University of Bayreuth Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship funding an Indian student can stack at the University of Bayreuth?

Ans. An Indian Master’s student can stack the DAAD EPOS stipend of €992 per month with the Deutschlandstipendium of €300 per month. This combination, on top of zero tuition, pushes annual support past INR 17 Lakhs. PhD candidates who combine a DAAD Research Grant with a BIGSAS or Marianne Plehn contract can cross INR 22 Lakhs per year in cash benefits.

Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for University of Bayreuth scholarships?

Ans. DAAD Master’s and PhD deadlines close in August and October each year for the following intake. Apply eight to twelve months before your start date. The Deutschlandstipendium opens for a two-week window in June, with the next confirmed cycle running June 8 to June 24, 2026.

Ques. How do I apply for the Deutschlandstipendium at the University of Bayreuth?

Ans. Applicants log in to the campus portal, upload their higher education entrance certificate, transcript, resume and a motivation letter that shows social engagement. Foreign qualifications need a translation into the German grading system. Only students from the 2nd semester onward can apply for the following academic year.

Ques. What GPA or grade threshold do University of Bayreuth scholarships expect?

Ans. The Deutschlandstipendium favours applicants in the top 20 percent of their cohort. That typically maps to an Indian aggregate of 80 percent or CGPA 8.0 and above. DAAD KOSPIE hard-codes a CGPA cut-off of 8.5 for IIT applicants, while EPOS scholarships weight work experience as heavily as academic score.

Ques. Does the University of Bayreuth scholarship stipend cover living costs in Bayreuth city?

Ans. The DAAD stipend of €992 per month comfortably covers Bayreuth living costs. Student room rent starts near €280 per month and health insurance runs about €130 per month. The Deutschlandstipendium alone of €300 per month works as a top-up plus part-time work or family support.

Ques. Are there scholarships for first-semester Indian students at the University of Bayreuth?

Ans. No internal University of Bayreuth award is open to first-semester students. Indians who need Semester 1 funding should target DAAD EPOS, DAAD KOSPIE, Inlaks or JN Tata before departure. These pay out from the first month of study.

Very challenging yet a good experience as a masters student in Germany. Had the opporutnity to enjoy the academic life alongside wonderful travel desitinations which can be the perfect getaway from studies when needed.
