What Students Say
Likes
- Beautiful location
- Practical skill based teaching approach which makes you job ready.
- Very knowledgeable profs who teach masterfully.
Dislikes
- Accomodation is hard to find (problem everywhere in Germany). Dorm rooms are limited so most people stay in a rented room
- People who are used to rote learning and have forgot to use their brain in exams will not like the courses here.
- Little to no placement support
Course Curriculum
- Very relevant to the current industry standards. They also focus a lot on the safety and social impact of technology, which indian colleges disregard completely.
- I was given a chance to work on a power electronics project under a prof.
- The class schedule is similar to engineering courses in india. 1.5-hour blocks for each subject. Labs are given the same weightage as theory subjects. Classes start at 8 am and go on till 5:30. Average number of students in a class is around 40-60.
Admission Experience
- I really liked the course and the university's proximity, both in distance and course material to the automobile industry, which i wanted to get into.
- Overall experience: Brilliant, fun, and a great place for learning
- TOEFL score above 95 (iBT) or IELTS band 6 were the only requirements when i applied but now i dont know
Faculty
- Ratio is around 1:20 but can't confirm. Everyone has mastered their subjects completely and keeps updated with the current trends. Prof. Laszlo Juhas and Prof. Otto Kreuzer have left a lasting impact on me.
Campus Life
- Campus life is very lively. There are clubs for organising pub crawls, etc. Clubs are all for organising cultural events only, since projects are done under the supervision and funding of professors and are part of the curriculum. Library has books both in german and english. Sports facilities are readily available to students, including a swimming pool (although it is a bit far, around 30 min by bicycle).
- Regular playing sessions for badminton, football, etc. Research facilities are top-notch and well funded. We had a Tesla roadster in the lab when we were working on developing electric batteries for E-vehicles.
Part Time Jobs
- Maximum allowed part-time hours are 20 per week. Not very difficult to secure an RA position and it generally lasts for 6 months (10 hours/week) and pays around 520€ a month. Other part-time jobs are always available on job search platforms like indeed
Placement
- Right now the job market is horrible, to say the least. I couldn't find a job there even after 18 months of continuously trying. The university provides a career newsletter that contains all the opportunities across Germany in companies that have a tie-up with the University.
- But if you get a job, the salary can range from €50,000 to €70,000 starting. Students usually find jobs through internships and referrals and through this newsletter. Also, profs have industry contacts they refer students to.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation through ebay Kleinanzeigen. Monthly rent was 350€/month. All basic amenities such as heating, a washing machine, and a kitchen with oven are included.
Exams
- Just TOEFL/IELTS is required with CV, degree transcript and SOP
Fees
- Tuition fee is 0. You have to pay a student contribution of around 60€ per semester
