Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

As TUM is more recognized and courses offered by this college are more interesting, also since it is a public university, the tuition fees are low.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

I wasn't selected for any of these colleges because I didn't apply to any of these colleges, and I did my homework before applying anywhere so that I could get into the colleges I particularly wanted.

Tips to enhance your application

The most important part is that your grade should be really good if your'e opting for bachelors. your grades should be good in your 12th and your studienkollege(this is the 13th class in germany which is to be done before opting for bachelors.)

Admission Experience

  • I chose this country because education is free in Germany in public universities, and there is only a small semester contribution that we have to give. TUM is one of the highest-ranking universities in the world and 1st in Germany.
  • TUM receives huge funding from the private sector and the government, so there are very good research opportunities. I am studying Information systems (the English translation of my course would be this), and its course structure is really good as with theoretical there are also practicals.
  • There are many different programs; mine specifically is in English and German, 70 per cent German and 30 per cent English. Bachelor's courses are generally in German, and master's courses are generally in English.
  • Location is also really good as Munich is the capital of Bavaria and here companies like BMW originated, so there are many opportunities in the automobile sector. Munich is also English-friendly.
  • Overall, academics are really good; extracurricular activities are not much there, and there are parties like semester opening parties and others. There is not much time for these activities from a university perspective, but there are many chances from a life perspective.

Class Schedule

9

There are almost 8-10 classes in a week, and the class timings vary anywhere between 8 am to 6 pm. The average strength of the class depends on the subject; some classes go to a strength of 2000 while some classes go to a strength of about 500-600 students, and in some, there are also 150 students. The number of Indians would be about 20- 30 students in a class daily about 4 hours of self-study is essential for self-study and doing all the assignments.

Faculty

6

The faculty are not easily approachable, which is not very good. We have to first mail them and then book an appointment to meet with them. Some professors are really fun to talk to, but some are there who are indeed knowledgeable, but the teaching style is not very interesting. Professors don’t help in getting a part-time or full-time job; they do help by giving recommendations.

Campus Life

10

There are events happening, and there are some extracurricular activities present, too, I have not participated in much, so I don't know, but yeah, they are there. TUM has three campuses, and there are facilities available on the campus, libraries, sports and TUM, and even a hospital itself. I haven't done much of extracurricular activities in college, so I don't have much idea about those.

Part Time Jobs

It varies for the part-time jobs available, and since Indian students don't know much German they tend to work in supermarkets, delivery, Indian restaurants etc. These jobs are pretty easy to find and for delivery jobs, just apply online. The average pay is about 13 euros per hour.

  • There are many jobs on the campus itself like you can get a tutorial position or an assistant research position sometimes. The pay depends on the type of job but, it is generally 12-13 euros an hour.
  • Finding internships is quite easy off campus but the most important part is that you should know German quite well because everything is in German here.
  • The maximum hours allowed per week is about 20 hours per week and where the lectures are free, it is 40 hours per week.

Placement

8

The average salary range for most students is about 50000 to 60000 euros per year, and the students can easily find jobs using LinkedIn and Zing. The lowest salary which has been offered is 45000 euros and the highest is 7000 euros.

Accommodation

Off Campus
7

For finding accommodations, there are online platforms like WG-gesucht. The challenges faced are that you should know German quite well, just knowing English is pretty hard to find. There are student dorms of the university, too, known as studentenwerk. You have to wait for quite a while for studentenwerk, and it is a bit expensive as Munich is expensive.
