The Charpak Scholarship Program, administered by the French Embassy in India, offers a range of scholarships to support Indian students pursuing higher education in France. These scholarships promote academic excellence and strengthen educational ties between India and France.

There are 4 types of scholarships under the Charpak scholarships program for the different levels of study. Depending on the scholarship, awardees can get a monthly stipend of 700-860 EURO and other benefits. To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must be an Indian citizen, aged 23-30. Charpak Bachelors Scholarship

The France Excellence Charpak Bachelor scholarship is designed for Indian students seeking to enroll in a full-time bachelor's degree program at any of the French Universities. It is open to undergraduate programs across all disciplines.

Charpak Bachelor Scholarships Benefits

The Charpak bachelors scholarship offers the following benefits:

  • A monthly stipend of 860 EURO
  • Waiver of visa fees (for applications from India) and Campus France procedure charges
  • Coverage of student social security and additional health insurance (mutuelle)
  • Support in finding affordable accommodation in France, with priority access to CROUS residencies (subject to availability)
  • Discounted university meals for just 1 EURO
  • Access to Campus France social and cultural events

Note: This scholarship does not cover travel expenses from India to France, or within France, or any other expenses related to the recipient’s stay in France.

Charpak Scholarship Eligibility for Bachelors

The eligibility criteria for Charpak Scholarships for Bachelors are given below:

  • Must be an Indian citizen or OCI cardholder
  • Must be 23 years or younger at the time of application
  • Should be enrolled in or have graduated from an Indian senior secondary school
  • Must have applied to a French institution before applying for the scholarship
  • The course must be conducted entirely in France; periods in other countries are not covered
  • Knowledge of French is beneficial, but not mandatory
  • Open to full-time bachelor’s programs in France
  • Current bachelor’s students in France can apply for funding for the 2nd or 3rd year

Charpak Masters Scholarship

The Charpak Masters Scholarship is designed for one to two years of studies in France at the Master’s degree level for all streams and fields of study.

Charpak Masters Scholarship Benefits

Charpak Masters scholarship offers the following benefits for Indian students:

  • 860 EURO monthly stipend
  • Visa fee waiver (for applications from India) and exemption from Campus France charges
  • Coverage for student social security and additional health insurance (mutuelle)
  • Assistance with affordable housing, including priority for CROUS residencies (subject to availability)
  • University meals at just 1 EURO
  • Access to Campus France social and cultural events

Note: This scholarship does not cover travel expenses from India to France, within France, or any other expenses, related to the recipient’s stay in France.

Charpak Scholarship Eligibility for Masters

To apply for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an Indian citizen or OCI cardholder.
  • 30 years or younger at the time of application.
  • Be enrolled in or have completed studies at an Indian higher education institution
  • The course must be fully conducted in France; periods in other countries are not covered.
  • Knowledge of French is an advantage, but not mandatory.
  • Open to full-time master’s degree programs (not applicable for exchange programs, internships, or research projects).
  • Current master’s students in France can apply for second-year funding.
  • Admission to a French institution is required before applying

Note: Applicants are not eligible if they have previously received the Charpak Master Scholarship. PhD students or planning to complete a master’s thesis, training, or research in France are also ineligible.


Charpak Summer Training Scholarship

Charpak summer internship/ training scholarship (previously Charpak Lab) supports Indian bachelor’s or master’s students planning a short-term internship or research project at a French institution during their academic break (May to August).

Charpak Summer Training Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship offers the following benefits:

  • 700 EURO monthly stipend for up to 2 months (May to August) from the French Institute in India
  • Student visa fee waiver (for applications from India)
  • Waiver of Campus France procedure fees (if applicable)

Note: Medical or travel expenses, travel insurance, or accommodation assistance are not covered in this scholarship. Students can opt for an internship for more than 2 months, However, the French Institute will provide benefits for a maximum of 2 months. Additional expenses are to be covered by the awardee.

Charpak Summer Training Scholarships Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the scholarship are as follows:

  • Must be an Indian national residing in India during application.
  • 30 years or younger at the time of application.
  • Should be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program at an Indian institution.
  • Must have an invitation letter from a French laboratory or institution for the research internship or project.

Charpak Exchange Scholarship

Charpak Exchange scholarship is for Indian students from all fields, enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in India, who wish to undertake a study exchange semester in France (1 to 6 months).

  • Monthly stipend of 860 EURO

  • Campus France fee waiver or reimbursement
  • Assistance in finding affordable student accommodation

Charpak Exchange Scholarships Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are listed below:

  • Must be an Indian national residing in India or an OCI cardholder.
  • 30 years or younger at the time of application.
  • Must be enrolled in an Indian institution with a partnership with the French institution for the exchange semester (mandatory).

Note: Research projects or thesis students are not eligible. The scholarship may be revoked if the exchange is not a study semester.


Charpak Scholarships Application Procedure

Candidates have to apply online for all the scholarships mentioned above. They need to send scanned copies of the following documents with the online application.

  • Recent professional portrait photo (JPG format)
  • Scanned copy of the first page of your passport (photo and expiry date)
  • Passport application proof if applying for a new passport
  • Latest CV (max 2 pages)
  • Scanned mark sheets and degree certificates (Higher Secondary, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and completed semesters of the ongoing degree)
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the candidate’s Indian University (for Summer training scholarship)
  • Scanned invitation letter from the French institution/ laboratory, specifying the internship/ research duration (or email proof if not yet received)
  • French language certificate (DELF/DALF), if available
  • Employment/internship record, if applicable
  • Letter(s) of recommendation from your Indian university (optional) with referee contact details, signature, and institution’s stamp, if possible.

Charpak Scholarship Selection Procedure

Applications will be checked for eligibility based on academic criteria, age, and required documents.

Charpak Bachelors and Masters Scholarships

Round 1:

Applications will be assessed on academic performance, consistency, statement of purpose, and overall profile. No minimum CGPA or percentage is required.

Round 2:

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed online between 7–25 April 2025. Applicants must be available during this period.

Plagiarism checks will be done on the Statement of Purpose (SOP). AI-generated content is discouraged and may lead to disqualification.

For Summer Training and Exchange Scholarship

Selection will be based on academic excellence and the quality of the statement of purpose. No CGPA or percentage cutoff is required. French language skills are an asset, but not mandatory.
