What is JNUEE 2026?
The JNUEE 2026, short for Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination, is the central admission process for Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. JNU is a public central university and one of India’s top-ranked research universities. The JNUEE portal at jnuee.jnu.ac.in handles online registration, application, fee payment and merit list publishing for almost all programs.
JNU no longer conducts its own JNUEE entrance test for most programs. Since 2022, the university has been using the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate (CUET PG) scores, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), for admission to its PG courses. For MBA admission, JNU uses CAT scores. For MTech engineering, admission is through CCMT counselling based on GATE scores.
This year, JNU is offering admission to more than 60 PG programs across 13 schools and special centres, along with ADOP foreign language diplomas and Post Graduate Diploma courses. PhD admissions are also handled through the JNUEE portal but follow a separate UGC NET/CSIR NET/GATE plus viva-voce route.
The JNUEE 2026 portal is open right now for PG, ADOP, MTech, MPH and PGD applications. The deadline is 15 June 2026, which is two days from today.

JNUEE 2026 Exam Pattern
JNU does not conduct its own JNUEE entrance test for PG admission. The university uses CUET PG 2026 scores, conducted by NTA. So the JNUEE 2026 exam pattern is the same as the CUET PG 2026 exam pattern.

JNUEE 2026 Admit Card
JNU itself does not release a separate JNUEE 2026 admit card because the entrance test is the CUET PG 2026. The CUET PG admit card was released by NTA in March 2026 before the exam in April 2026. If you have appeared for CUET PG 2026, your scorecard is the document JNU will accept during the application process.
For programs where JNU conducts its own interview, viva-voce or skill test — like PhD admission, MPH and select ADOP courses — JNU releases a separate call letter or interview letter. The call letter contains your reporting date, time, venue and roll number. You should download it from your JNUEE login.
How to Download the JNU Interview Call Letter:
- Visit jnuee.jnu.ac.in and click on the candidate login link.
- Enter your application number and password.
- Click on the "Download Call Letter" link.
- Check all details — name, photograph, program, interview date and venue.
- Take a printout and carry it on the day of the interview along with a valid photo ID.
JNUEE 2026 Result
The JNUEE 2026 result is published in the form of program-wise merit lists. JNU uses CUET PG 2026 normalised scores to prepare the merit lists. The CUET PG 2026 result was already declared by NTA in April 2026. You can log in to the CUET PG portal to check your scorecard.
JNU releases its first PG merit list usually in the last week of June. Last year (2025), the first merit list was released on 28 June 2025. Multiple rounds of merit lists are released till all seats are filled. Each merit list has a fixed reporting window during which selected candidates must complete document verification and fee payment.
How to Check JNU 2026 Merit List:
- Visit the JNUEE portal at jnuee.jnu.ac.in.
- Click on the "PG Merit List 2026" or "Result" link.
- Select your program and school from the dropdown.
- Download the PDF and search for your CUET PG application number.
- If your name appears, follow the reporting instructions for document verification.
The merit list contains the applicant’s CUET PG application number, name, score, rank and admission status. You should monitor the JNUEE portal regularly during the merit-list season as the cutoff drops with each subsequent round.
JNUEE 2026 Cutoff
The JNUEE 2026 cutoff is the minimum CUET PG normalised score needed to secure a seat in your chosen program at JNU. JNU releases program-wise and category-wise cutoffs for every merit list. The cutoff depends on the number of applicants, the difficulty of the CUET PG paper and the deprivation points awarded.
Expected JNUEE 2026 Cutoff for Top Programs (UR Category):
| Program | Expected Cutoff (Normalised Score) | 2025 Cutoff (Round 1) |
|---|---|---|
| MA Politics (International Relations) | 85 - 100 | 89 |
| MA Economics | 84 - 100 | 84 |
| MA English | 71 - 100 | 74 |
| MA History | 65 - 95 | 68 |
| MA Sociology | 62 - 95 | 65 |

JNU also awards deprivation points to candidates from backward areas, women candidates and candidates with rural school education. These points are added to the CUET PG score before preparing the merit list. The deprivation system is unique to JNU and can shift the cutoff by 5 to 10 marks in your favour.
JNUEE 2026 Counselling Process
The JNUEE 2026 counselling process is the next step after the JNU merit list is released. Counselling is conducted online through the JNUEE portal. You should not miss the reporting window of your merit list, as failure to report leads to cancellation of your seat.
JNU 2026 Counselling Steps:
- Step 1 - Merit List Check: Check the JNU PG merit list at jnuee.jnu.ac.in. If your name appears, note the reporting window dates.
- Step 2 - Document Upload: Log in to the JNUEE portal and upload the required documents — Class 10 and 12 marksheets, qualifying degree, category certificate, CUET PG scorecard, photograph and signature.
- Step 3 - Document Verification: JNU verifies the uploaded documents. Some programs require physical reporting at the JNU campus for document verification.
- Step 4 - Fee Payment: Once verified, you must pay the admission fee online within the specified window. The fee includes tuition fee and a one-time security deposit.
- Step 5 - Seat Confirmation: After fee payment, your seat is confirmed. You will receive an admission letter via email.
JNU usually conducts two to three rounds of counselling. If a candidate does not report or refuses the allotted seat, the seat is offered to the next candidate on the waitlist. Final spot admission rounds may also be conducted in mid-August.
Note: For PhD admission, counselling is replaced by a viva-voce conducted by the respective school. The viva carries 30% weightage while the NET percentile carries 70% weightage in the final selection.
JNUEE 2026 PhD Admission
JNU PhD admission for 2026 is handled separately through the JNUEE portal but follows a different rule. JNU does not conduct an entrance test for most PhD programs. Instead, admission is based on UGC NET or CSIR NET or GATE score plus a viva-voce.
PhD Admission Categories:
- Category 1: Candidates who have qualified UGC NET or CSIR NET with JRF (Junior Research Fellowship). These candidates are considered with 100% weightage in viva-voce. NET percentile is used only to shortlist them.
- Category 2: Candidates who have qualified for Assistant Professorship (NET without JRF) or have a valid GATE score. Selection is 70% based on NET/GATE percentile and 30% based on viva-voce.
For the PhD 2026 Monsoon semester, the application notification is expected in July 2026. The previous PhD cycle (2025-26 Phase II Winter Semester) had a deadline of 3 December 2025. The NET percentile from December 2024 onwards is considered valid for 2026 admission.
You must hold a Master’s degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD/OBC non-creamy layer). Final viva-voce is conducted by the respective school of JNU.
JNUEE 2026 Reservation Policy
JNU follows the Government of India reservation policy for admission. Seat reservation is applied at every stage of the merit list and counselling. You should fill in your category details correctly during the application process to claim the reserved seat benefit.
| Category | Reservation (%) |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 15% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 7.5% |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC) - Non-Creamy Layer | 27% |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 10% |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | 5% (horizontal) |
| Kashmiri Migrants | 1 seat per program (over and above) |
| Single Girl Child | 1 seat per program (over and above) |
| Wards of Defence Personnel | 5% (horizontal) |
JNU also has a special deprivation points system, unique to the university. Candidates from backward districts, women candidates and candidates whose school education was in a rural area are awarded extra points. These deprivation points are added to the CUET PG normalised score to prepare the JNU merit list. The system is meant to ensure diversity in the JNU student body.
JNUEE 2026 Preparation Tips
The JNUEE 2026 selection is entirely based on CUET PG 2026 scores for PG and ADOP programs. So your preparation strategy should focus on the CUET PG 2026 subject syllabus. With CUET PG 2026 results already declared, the focus now shifts to choosing the right program and securing your seat through the merit list.
For First-Time Applicants (For Next Year):
- Know the Syllabus: Download the latest CUET PG subject syllabus. Map every topic against your study material. Identify weak areas early.
- NCERT and Standard Books: Start with NCERT books for basic concepts. Move on to standard reference books for advanced topics. For MA Economics, focus on Mankiw, Dornbusch and Ahuja. For MA English, focus on Norton Anthology and M.H. Abrams.
- Mock Tests: Take at least 30 to 40 CUET PG mock tests before the actual exam. Mock tests help you manage time and reduce silly mistakes.
- Previous Year Papers: Solve CUET PG 2024 and 2025 papers. The pattern is fairly consistent and previous-year questions often repeat.
- Current Affairs: For MA Politics, MA IR and MA History, keep track of national and international current affairs. Read at least one daily newspaper and one monthly current affairs magazine.
For Applicants This Year:
- Cross-check your CUET PG 2026 scorecard against the previous year’s JNU cutoff.
- Apply to multiple eligible programs to keep your options open.
- Use the deprivation points calculator on the JNU prospectus to estimate your final merit score.
- Keep all your original documents scanned and ready for the document verification phase.
- Track the JNUEE portal daily during the merit list season.
