EMAT 2026 — the Executive Management Aptitude Test conducted by IIM Kozhikode — is now at a pivotal stage. Phase 1 of the exam concluded on May 17 and May 29, 2026, and Phase 1 personal interviews are coming up on June 6, 13, and 14, 2026. At the same time, Phase 2 registration is currently open until July 12, 2026, giving working professionals another opportunity to apply for the prestigious IIM Kozhikode Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) 2026–28 batch.
- Phase 1 Interviews: EMAT 2026 Phase 1 personal interviews are scheduled for June 6, 13, and 14, 2026. Shortlisted candidates from the Phase 1 EMAT held on May 17 and May 29 will receive interview call letters at their registered email IDs from IIM Kozhikode.
- Phase 1 Offer Letters: IIM Kozhikode will release Phase 1 admission offers on or before June 30, 2026. Selected candidates must confirm their seat by paying Rs. 1,00,000 by July 10, 2026.
- Phase 2 Registration Open: Phase 2 EMAT 2026 registration is currently open and closes on July 12, 2026. The Phase 2 exam dates are July 19 and 23, 2026. Candidates who missed Phase 1 can still apply for the same 2026–28 batch.
- Programme Commencement: The EPGP 2026–28 batch (19th batch of IIM Kozhikode EPGP) starts with the first in-campus module from December 10–21, 2026, at the IIMK Kozhikode campus. Online platform sessions also begin in December 2026.
What is EMAT 2026?
EMAT stands for Executive Management Aptitude Test. IIM Kozhikode (Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode) conducts this online entrance exam for admissions to its Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP). The EPGP is a 2-year management programme designed for working professionals who want an IIM degree while continuing in their jobs.
IIM Kozhikode is one of India’s top B-schools, ranked 3rd in India by NIRF 2025 and 65th globally by the Financial Times in 2026. It holds Double Crown accreditation status — both AMBA and EQUIS. The EPGP is now in its 19th batch, with more than 15,000 IIM Kozhikode alumni and 5,500+ EPGP enrolments since the programme launched.
EMAT is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) with 60 multiple-choice questions across 3 sections. You can also use a valid CAT, GRE, or GMAT score instead of EMAT if you have appeared for any of these exams within the past 3 years. Admission is holistic — EMAT score, personal interview performance, academic record, and work experience profile all matter.

EMAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria
To apply for EMAT 2026, you must meet the educational qualification and work experience requirements set by IIM Kozhikode. Check these carefully before paying the Rs. 2,000 application fee.
Educational Qualification
- A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum 50% aggregate marks from a recognised university
- OR a professional qualification — CA, ICWA, or CS — with a minimum of 50% marks
- If you hold a foreign degree, you need an equivalency certificate from a Government of India-approved assessment agency
- Relaxation: 45% aggregate for women candidates; 40% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates
Work Experience

- The 3-year requirement must be fulfilled on or before the application closing date of your chosen phase
- There is no category-based relaxation on the work experience requirement
Age Limit
IIM Kozhikode does not set any upper or lower age limit for EPGP admission. Given the mandatory 3-year post-graduation work experience, most applicants are 25 years or older in practice.
Alternative to EMAT
If you have a valid CAT, GRE, or GMAT score, you can use it in place of EMAT 2026. The score must not be older than 3 years from the Phase 1 EMAT date (May 17, 2026). You simply submit the score during your online application — no separate EMAT registration is needed in that case.

EMAT 2026 Exam Pattern
The EMAT 2026 is a short, focused online test. It has 60 questions in 3 equal sections and must be completed in 1 hour. There is no negative marking, so you should attempt every question — a blank answer gets zero, but a guess has a chance of scoring.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Exam Mode | Online Computer-Based Test (CBT) — MCQ format |
| Total Questions | 60 MCQs |
| Number of Sections | 3 sections, 20 questions each |
| Total Duration | 1 hour (60 minutes) |
| Marking Scheme | +1 mark for each correct answer |
| Negative Marking | None |
| Language | English |
| Compensatory Time (PwD) | 20 extra minutes per hour |
| Exam Delivery | Online from candidate’s own computer |
Section-wise Distribution
| Section | Topics Covered | Questions | Time (approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section 1: Quantitative Aptitude | Arithmetic, Algebra, DI, Statistics, Probability | 20 | 20 minutes |
| Section 2: Logical Reasoning | Puzzles, Series, Coding-Decoding, Arrangements | 20 | 20 minutes |
| Section 3: Verbal Ability & General Management | Reading Comprehension, Business Communication, Management Concepts | 20 | 20 minutes |
| Total | — | 60 | 60 minutes |
With 60 questions in 60 minutes, you get about 1 minute per question on average. In practice, Verbal and some LR questions are faster; QA and complex LR puzzles take longer. Manage your time by moving quickly through simpler questions first and returning to harder ones.
IIM Kozhikode provides a sample question paper on the official EMAT registration page. Download and practise from it before your exam date — it is the best guide to the actual question style and difficulty level.
EMAT 2026 Syllabus
The EMAT 2026 syllabus covers management aptitude topics across three sections. The level of difficulty is moderate — roughly equivalent to graduate-level problem-solving and management awareness. Here is a complete topic-wise breakdown:
Section 1: Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation
- Arithmetic: Profit and Loss, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Time-Speed-Distance, Time and Work, Ratio and Proportions, Percentages
- Algebra: Linear equations, Inequalities, Coordinate geometry basics
- Sets: Union, intersection, Venn diagrams
- Statistics: Mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation
- Probability: Basic probability, conditional probability
- Data Interpretation: Tables, bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs — reading and calculating from given data
Section 2: Logical Reasoning and General Intelligence
- Puzzles and Seating Arrangements: Linear, circular, and floor-based puzzle sets
- Coding and Decoding
- Blood Relations
- Number and Letter Series
- Direction Sense
- Input-Output sequences
- Syllogisms and Critical Reasoning
- Analytical Reasoning
Section 3: Verbal Ability and General Management
- Reading Comprehension: Passages on business, economy, and management themes; questions on main idea, inference, tone, and vocabulary
- Business Communication: Grammar, sentence correction, para-jumbles, vocabulary in context
- Management Functions and Concepts: Planning, organising, leading, and controlling; SWOT analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, Maslow’s hierarchy
- Finance Basics: Financial statements, key ratios, budgeting concepts
- Business Environment: Macroeconomics, business policy, current corporate affairs
- Managerial Skills: Leadership styles, team management, organisational behaviour
The Verbal and General Management section rewards candidates who regularly read business news and have some awareness of core MBA concepts. You do not need an MBA background to score well — a habit of reading economic and business articles for 4–6 weeks before the exam is usually sufficient preparation.
IIM Kozhikode provides a sample EMAT question paper on the official registration portal. Download it as your first preparation step — it gives you the most accurate picture of question style, difficulty, and the time pressure you will face.
EMAT 2026 Phase 1 Paper Analysis: May 17 and May 29
EMAT 2026 Phase 1 was conducted across two days — May 17, 2026 (Day 1) and May 29, 2026 (Day 2). Both days are now complete. Based on initial candidate feedback shared on management entrance forums, here is an overview of both days.
Phase 1 Day 2 (May 29, 2026) — Key Highlights
- Overall difficulty: Moderate, comparable in level to Day 1 (May 17)
- Quantitative Aptitude: Moderate — questions covered standard Arithmetic topics, DI sets from tables and bar charts, and a few Probability questions. Calculation-heavy DI questions required careful and quick arithmetic.
- Logical Reasoning: Moderate to slightly difficult — puzzle-based questions and seating arrangements were the most time-consuming. Candidates who skipped complex puzzles initially and returned to them later managed better overall time distribution.
- Verbal Ability and General Management: Moderate to easy for candidates with regular business-reading habits. RC passages were based on management and economic themes. General management questions tested basic organisational behaviour and strategic management concepts.
- Exam delivery: The online test was conducted without significant technical disruptions. Candidates completed the 60-question test in one uninterrupted sitting.
Day 1 vs Day 2 — Comparative Overview
| Aspect | Day 1 (May 17, 2026) | Day 2 (May 29, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Overall Difficulty | Moderate | Moderate |
| Quantitative Aptitude | Moderate | Moderate |
| Logical Reasoning | Moderate | Moderate to Slightly Difficult |
| Verbal & General Management | Moderate to Easy | Moderate to Easy |
| Technical Issues | None reported | None reported |
| Recommended Attempts | 50+ out of 60 | 50+ out of 60 |
IIM Kozhikode has not released an official answer key or Phase 1 shortlist as of May 30, 2026. Shortlisted candidates for Phase 1 interviews (June 6, 13, 14) will be notified directly by IIMK via email. If you appeared in Phase 1 EMAT, monitor your registered email and the official portal closely.
Phase 2 candidates appearing in July should use this Phase 1 feedback to refine their preparation. Focus extra time on LR puzzles and DI sets — these tend to be the most time-consuming question types and can derail your time management if not practised.
EMAT 2026 Admit Card
The EMAT 2026 admit card is released online on the official IIM Kozhikode EPGP portal. You need to download it before your exam date. The Phase 1 admit card was used for the May 17 and May 29 exams. Phase 2 and Phase 3 admit cards will be released closer to the respective exam dates in July and September 2026.
How to Download the EMAT Admit Card
- Visit the official portal: iimk.ac.in/apps/Admission/EPGP
- Log in using your registered email ID and password
- Navigate to the Hall Ticket or Admit Card section in your candidate dashboard
- Download and save the admit card as a PDF
- Keep it accessible on your device on exam day — since EMAT is an online test, a digital copy on screen is sufficient
What to Keep Ready on Exam Day
- Downloaded EMAT admit card (on screen or printed)
- One valid government-issued photo ID — Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, or driving licence
- PwD certificate (if applicable, to claim compensatory time)
- A functioning webcam, stable internet connection, and a quiet, well-lit exam environment
Check your admit card carefully for any errors in your name, exam date, or slot. If you find a discrepancy, contact IIM Kozhikode through the official portal immediately — do not wait until exam day to raise a correction.
EMAT 2026 Phase 1 Interview: Process and Preparation
EMAT 2026 Phase 1 personal interviews are scheduled for June 6, 13, and 14, 2026. These are online interviews conducted by IIM Kozhikode faculty. The interview carries significant weight in the final admission decision — it is evaluated alongside your EMAT score, academic record, and work experience profile.
Interview Format
- Mode: Online, via video call through a designated platform
- Duration: Approximately 20–30 minutes
- Panel: 2–3 IIM Kozhikode faculty members
- Language: English
- Assigned slot: You will receive a specific date and time from IIMK by email after shortlisting
What the Interview Panel Evaluates
The panel assesses your overall readiness for a rigorous 2-year management programme. They look at multiple dimensions:
- Work experience relevance: Your career trajectory, progression in roles, leadership responsibilities held, and key professional achievements
- MBA motivation: Why you want an executive MBA, why IIM Kozhikode, and how the EPGP fits your career goals
- Communication clarity: Your ability to explain ideas precisely and present yourself confidently in English
- Domain awareness: Knowledge of your industry, major trends in your sector, and basic management concepts relevant to your role
- Academic awareness: Brief discussion on your bachelor’s degree and any notable academic work
How to Prepare for the EMAT Personal Interview
- Prepare a 2-minute self-introduction covering your education, career journey, key achievements, and what you want from the EPGP
- Know your current organisation’s business model, revenue streams, competitive landscape, and your specific role within it in good detail
- Have 2–3 concrete examples of leadership, problem-solving, or cross-functional work ready from your career — use the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
- Read about IIM Kozhikode — its NIRF rank, AMBA/EQUIS accreditation, curriculum highlights, and how EPGP differs from other executive MBA programmes
- Stay updated on major business and economic news from the past 3–6 months — the panel may ask about recent events in your industry or in the Indian economy
- Revise a few core management frameworks: Porter’s Five Forces, BCG Matrix, SWOT analysis, and basic financial metrics such as ROE and EBITDA
- Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection at least one day before your interview slot — a technical glitch on interview day creates a poor first impression
Shortlisted Phase 1 candidates receive an interview call letter at their registered email ID. Phase 2 interview dates are July 25, August 1, and August 2, 2026; Phase 3 interviews are September 12, 19, and 20, 2026 — both are relevant for candidates currently applying to those phases.
EMAT 2026 Result and Selection Process
IIM Kozhikode does not publish a public merit list with scores. Admission offers are sent directly to selected candidates by email. For Phase 1, offer letters will be released on or before June 30, 2026. Here is how the full selection process works.
Selection Factors
EMAT 2026 selection is based on a composite evaluation — not just your exam score. IIM Kozhikode considers all of the following:
- EMAT score (or CAT/GRE/GMAT score if submitted instead)
- Personal Interview performance — carries significant weight; panel scores you on communication, articulation, and leadership potential
- Academic record — marks in 10th, 12th, and bachelor’s degree
- Work experience quality — total years, seniority of roles, industries worked in, and career progression over time
- Overall profile — entrepreneurial background, international exposure, leadership positions, professional certifications
Phase-wise Offer and Acceptance Timeline
| Phase | Offer Release Date | Acceptance Deadline | Confirmation Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | On or before June 30, 2026 | July 10, 2026 | Rs. 1,00,000 |
| Phase 2 | On or before August 17, 2026 | August 27, 2026 | Rs. 1,00,000 |
| Phase 3 | On or before October 1, 2026 | October 9, 2026 | Rs. 1,00,000 |
To confirm your seat, you pay Rs. 1,00,000 — this is the Offer Acceptance Fee and forms part of your first programme instalment. It is non-refundable after the acceptance deadline.
IIMK does not send rejection letters. If you do not receive an offer by the stated release date, it means you were not selected in that phase. You can still apply for Phase 2 (if Phase 1 has passed) or Phase 3, since all three phases admit candidates into the same batch.
EMAT 2026 Cutoff
IIM Kozhikode does not publish a single cutoff score for EMAT. Selection is based on a composite score covering EMAT, interview, academics, and work experience. However, IIMK does publish minimum qualifying marks that serve as floor thresholds — you must secure at least these marks in both the EMAT and the personal interview to remain eligible for admission consideration.
EMAT 2026 Minimum Qualifying Marks
| Category | EMAT Minimum Score (%) | Personal Interview Minimum (%) |
|---|---|---|
| General | 25% | 25% |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 20% | 20% |
| SC | 20% | 15% |
| ST | 18% | 15% |
| PwD | 18% | 15% |
Meeting the minimum qualifying marks only makes you eligible for further evaluation — it does not guarantee admission. The actual competitive bar is significantly higher and depends on the quality of the applicant pool in each phase.
What Actually Determines Selection
- The minimum qualifying threshold is designed to filter out very weak attempts — clearing it is necessary but not sufficient
- Candidates with 8–10+ years of senior managerial experience and strong interview performance frequently get selected even with moderate EMAT scores, because the holistic composite is what drives the final decision
- A very high EMAT score alone does not guarantee admission without a strong interview and a compelling work experience narrative
- Previous EPGP batches show an average work experience of 8+ years — this signals that profile depth and career seniority are significant factors in admission
- Candidates submitting GMAT/CAT/GRE scores instead of EMAT are evaluated equivalently; a strong GMAT score (650+) is generally viewed positively alongside a solid interview performance

Preparation Tips for EMAT 2026
EMAT 2026 is a 1-hour, 60-question online test with no negative marking. Your preparation does not need to match the intensity required for CAT or GMAT — but you do need to be sharp, fast, and consistent across all three sections. Here is a targeted guide:
Quantitative Aptitude
- Prioritise Arithmetic topics: Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Time-Speed-Distance, and Ratio-Proportions are the most frequently tested areas. If your QA fundamentals are strong here, the section becomes manageable.
- Practise Data Interpretation — tables, bar charts, and pie charts — at speed. DI questions appear across both QA and LR and are the most common time traps.
- For Probability and Statistics, learn the standard formulas for mean, standard deviation, and basic probability rules. Questions are typically straightforward and formula-based.
- Time yourself: target 20 QA questions in under 18 minutes during practice to build the pace you need on exam day.
Logical Reasoning
- Puzzles and Seating Arrangements are the biggest time consumers. If a puzzle takes more than 90 seconds to crack, skip it and return at the end.
- Coding-Decoding, Number Series, and Blood Relations are quick and formulaic — solve these first to secure easy marks within the LR section.
- Solve at least 5 LR sets weekly throughout your preparation. Speed and pattern recognition improve significantly with consistent practice over 4–6 weeks.
Verbal Ability and General Management
- Read business newspapers and management publications daily. The Hindu Business Line and Economic Times are good sources for both RC-style reading practice and General Management awareness.
- For RC, practise identifying the main idea in the first two sentences of a passage. EMAT passages are typically 300–400 words on business and management topics — effective skimming is a key skill.
- Revise core management frameworks: the four functions of management (plan, organise, lead, control), SWOT analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, and Maslow’s hierarchy. These appear regularly in General Management questions.
- For grammar and sentence correction, focus on subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and common preposition and article errors.
Overall Exam Strategy
- Attempt all 60 questions. With no negative marking, a blank gets zero — but a guess always has a positive expected value. Never leave a question unanswered.
- Aim for 45+ correct answers. With moderate paper difficulty and no penalty for wrong answers, this score puts you in a strong position for interview shortlisting.
- Take 2–3 full-length timed mock tests online before your exam date to build the habit of working within the 60-minute constraint.
- Download the official sample question paper from the IIMK portal and solve it as your first full practice run — it is the most reliable guide to actual question style and difficulty.
- On exam day: ensure a stable internet connection, a functioning webcam, and a quiet environment. Log in 10 minutes early to complete any system or proctoring checks.
Four to six weeks of focused daily practice — about 1 hour per day — is typically sufficient for candidates with strong academic backgrounds and professional work experience. Use your professional knowledge to contextualise management concepts during both the exam and the personal interview.

You need a Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% aggregate marks (45% for women; 40% for SC/ST/PwD) and at least 3 full years of post-graduation work experience in a managerial, entrepreneurial, or professional role. There is no upper age limit. A valid CAT, GRE, or GMAT score within 3 years can be submitted instead of EMAT.
Ques. How many phases does EMAT 2026 have?
Ans. EMAT 2026 has three phases. Phase 1 exams were held on May 17 and 29, 2026 (both completed). Phase 2 registration is open until July 12, 2026, with exams on July 19 and 23. Phase 3 registration opens July 14, with exams on September 6 and 10. All three phases admit candidates into the same EPGP 2026–28 batch starting December 2026.
Ques. Is there negative marking in EMAT 2026?
Ans. No, there is no negative marking in EMAT 2026. Each correct answer scores +1 mark. Incorrect answers and blank questions both score zero. You should attempt all 60 questions — there is nothing to lose by guessing when you are unsure.
Ques. Can I use my GMAT or CAT score instead of appearing for EMAT?
Ans. Yes. IIM Kozhikode accepts valid CAT, GRE, or GMAT scores in place of EMAT. The score must not be older than 3 years from the Phase 1 EMAT date (May 17, 2026). If you have a valid score, submit it during the online application — you do not need to register for the EMAT exam separately.
Ques. When are the EMAT 2026 Phase 1 interviews?
Ans. EMAT 2026 Phase 1 personal interviews are scheduled for June 6, 13, and 14, 2026. These are online interviews conducted by IIM Kozhikode faculty. Ques. What is the EMAT 2026 cutoff for the General category?
