Most consumer products are created in a laboratory or industrial setting where the quality of the raw materials is monitored. Chemical laboratory technicians work in a supporting role using testing methodologies to assure quality with chemical manufacturers, cannabis and food ingredient companies, energy producers and the emerging green product sector. One of the few two-year science-based diploma programs at Ontario colleges, the Chemical Laboratory Technician program will provide you with foundational knowledge in many different disciplines to open the door to the career of your dreams.


In this two-year diploma program, you will benefit from practical training and learn the essential principles and techniques used in the biochemical sciences. You will gain hands-on experience needed to perform experiments and determinations with the precision required in a broad range of industries. That means getting hands-on training in the proper care and use of laboratory apparatus for wet and instrumental methods. 

The program covers a broad range of topics, including organic and analytical chemistry, biochemistry, industrial microbiology, as well as pharmaceutical and instrumental methods.

Location Facts

Durham College is situated on the traditional lands of the First Peoples of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. These lands are covered under the Williams Treaties and rest within the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg. They offer gratitude to the Indigenous Peoples who care for and, through the treaty process, share the lands on which we live, learn, teach and prosper today.


Seneca is expanding and enhancing our campuses in Toronto, York Region and Peterborough.

  • King Campus: Located on 282 hectares of woods, lake and fields in York Region, King Campus is about 40 minutes north of Toronto. The new Magna Hall building has added 200,000 square feet of academic, student and athletic space to King Campus.
  • Newnham Campus: One of Canada’s largest college campuses, Newnham Campus, is located at Finch Avenue and the Don Valley Parkway/Highway 404 in Toronto. The new Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE) will open later this year and will feature classrooms, labs and more.
  • Seneca York Campus : Located on the grounds of York University, Seneca@York Campus is near the intersection of Steeles Avenue and Keele Street in Toronto. The recently opened York University subway station is located in the heart of the campus.
  • Markham Campus : Located where highways 7 and 404 meet, Markham Campus is in the heart of York Region’s business district.
  • Peterborough Aviation Campus: Honours Bachelor of Aviation Technology students study at this world-class aviation campus for years two, three and four.

Library

The Oshawa Campus Library has approximately 700 study spaces available in a mixture of soft seating, open tables, and study carrels.

The hours change during the summer semester, exam period, and around the holiday break. They also have lots of items you can borrow besides books, including laptops, mice, podcast kits, stationery, and more!

The Library has 4 floors, offering a variety of study spaces and services.

  • Study areas are split into areas that allow for different levels of noise.
  • Colour printer on the second floor, black and white printers/scanners and copiers on all other floors

Established in the year 1967, Durham college of Applied Arts and Technology is located in Ontario, Canada. It has two main campus locations in Oshawa and Whitby along with a learning site in Pickering.

Every third week of November, organizations around the world celebrate International Education Week (IEW). Celebrated globally since 2000, IEW provides an opportunity to highlight the benefits of internationalization efforts worldwide

The cutting-edge Student Services facility and the Centre for Collaborative Education are located on the Durham College campus in Oshawa.
