Ques. What is the entrance exam for GNM admission at PEWS Group of Institutions?
Ans. Admission to the GNM programme at PEWS Group of Institutions is through the SSUHS GNM Entrance Exam (GNMEE) conducted by Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. The GNMEE is a 100-mark MCQ-based exam covering English, Mathematics, and General Science, with no negative marking. Candidates register on ssuhs.ac.in, appear for the exam, and receive seat allotment through SSUHS centralised counselling. PEWS seats are filled from the SSUHS merit list.

Ques. Can students from the arts stream apply for GNM at PEWS?
Ans. Yes, SSUHS allows students from any stream (arts, science, or commerce) to apply for GNM admission, provided they have passed 10+2 with English as a compulsory subject and a minimum of 40% aggregate marks. This makes GNM at PEWS accessible to a wider pool of candidates compared to courses like B.Sc Nursing, which typically require Science with PCB. Arts stream students must appear in and qualify the SSUHS GNMEE.
Ques. How many GNM seats are available at PEWS Group of Institutions?
Ans. The GNM programme at PEWS Group of Institutions has an intake of 60 seats per academic year. These seats are filled through centralised counselling conducted by SSUHS after the GNMEE results. A portion of the seats may be reserved for SC/ST/OBC/MOBC candidates as per Assam government reservation policy. Candidates from Assam and other Northeast states are prioritised in state quota seat allotment.
Ques. What career options are available after completing GNM?
Ans. GNM graduates are eligible to register as General Duty Nurses with the Assam Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Council and can work in government hospitals, private hospitals, community health centres, maternity homes, and primary health centres. Graduates may also appear for government nursing recruitment exams conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission. Further qualification through a post-basic B.Sc Nursing programme is also available to GNM graduates seeking a degree upgrade.
