GVMC MPHW FAQs
Ques. What is the minimum qualification required for the Multipurpose Health Worker course at GVMC?
Ans. The minimum qualification is a pass in SSLC (Class 10) from a recognised board. For OC/BC/BCM/MBC/DNC candidates, a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in SSLC is required. SC/SCA/ST candidates need only a pass. Unlike most other certificate courses under the same scheme, Class 12 (HSC) is not required for this course.
Ques. What kind of work does a Multipurpose Health Worker do after completing this course?
Ans. A Multipurpose Health Worker (Hospital Worker) assists in patient care, ward management, sanitation, sterilisation of equipment, transportation of patients within the hospital, and general support functions across hospital departments. In government health services, they may also be deployed in primary health centres and community health centres for basic health promotion and disease prevention activities.
Ques. How many seats are available for this course at GVMC, and what is the reservation breakdown?
Ans. GVMC has 50 sanctioned seats for the Multi Purpose Hospital Worker course. In 2025, the community-wise vacancy breakdown was: OC-13, BC-14, BCM-2, MBC/DNC-10, SC-6, SCA-1, ST-1 (total 47 seats available for district-level admission). The exact seat matrix may vary each year based on the DME's allocation.
Ques. Can I get a government job after completing this course?
Ans. Yes. Graduates of the Multi Purpose Hospital Worker course are eligible to apply for government hospital posts such as Hospital Attendant, Ward Boy/Girl, and Multi Purpose Health Worker in Tamil Nadu government health services (through Tamil Nadu Medical Services Recruitment Board - MRB and other government recruitment bodies). The course certificate is recognised by the Tamil Nadu government.
Ques. Is there a walk-in admission option if I miss the primary counselling round?
Ans. Yes. If seats remain vacant after the primary online counselling and district-level admission rounds, GVMC conducts walk-in admissions on a first-come, first-served basis strictly following communal rotation. Candidates can directly visit the Dean/Vice Principal's office at GVMC on working days during the walk-in admission period with all original documents. No prior application is required for walk-in admission.
Ques. Can students from other districts of Tamil Nadu apply for this course at GVMC?
Ans. Yes. The course is open to all Tamil Nadu natives, not just residents of Vellore district. However, during the district-level admission round, priority may be given to candidates from Vellore district. In the primary online counselling round, candidates from across Tamil Nadu can apply and choose GVMC as their preferred institution based on merit and seat availability.
