The Certificate Course in Multipurpose Health Worker (also referred to as Multi Purpose Hospital Worker or MPHW) at Government Vellore Medical College (GVMC), Vellore is a 1-year certificate-level paramedical programme offered under the Allied Healthcare Certificate Courses scheme of the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu. The course trains students in basic hospital support functions including patient care assistance, ward management, sanitation, sterilisation, and general healthcare support across various hospital departments. GVMC offers 50 sanctioned seats for this course, and admission is conducted through the Tamil Nadu state-level paramedical certificate course selection process. The minimum qualification required is a pass in SSLC (Class 10), making it one of the most accessible healthcare training programmes for students who have not pursued Class 12. Being a government institution, the fees are highly subsidised, and the course provides a direct entry point into government and private hospital employment.

Admissions for the 2026-27 session are expected to follow the same pattern as 2025-26. In 2025, the primary online counselling was conducted in August 2025, and for vacant seats, a district-level and walk-in admission process was conducted in September 2025 (applications from 8-12 September 2025, merit list on 16 September 2025, joining by 20 September 2025, and walk-in admissions from 22 September 2025 onwards, with the entire process completed by 30 September 2025). The 2026-27 admission cycle is expected to begin around June-July 2026. Students are advised to monitor the official website tnmedicalselection.net and the GVMC website velloremedicalcollege.in for updates.
