Ques. Is the B.Ed at KUU NCTE approved? Is the degree valid for government school teaching jobs?
Ans. Yes, the B.Ed programme at Khallikote Unitary University is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), which is the statutory body for teacher education in India. A B.Ed degree from an NCTE-approved institution is a mandatory qualification for teaching at the secondary and senior secondary level in government and private schools. After completing B.Ed, graduates must also clear OTET (Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test) or CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) to be eligible for government school teaching positions.
Ques. What is the total fee for the 2-year B.Ed programme at KUU?
Ans. The total fee for the 2-year B.Ed programme is Rs. 90,000 (Rs. 45,000 per year). This is the fee fixed by the Odisha Higher Education Department for self-financing B.Ed seats. No additional fees are charged by the institution. Hostel fees (Rs. 3,300 per year) are optional and separate.
Ques. Is there an entrance exam for B.Ed admission at KUU? How is it conducted?
Ans. Yes, admission to B.Ed at KUU is based on the B.Ed Entrance Test conducted by the State Selection Board (SSB), Odisha. The test has 100 MCQ questions (100 marks, 2 hours) with negative marking (0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer). Section I (40 marks) covers Language (English), General Awareness, Reasoning, and Teaching Aptitude. Section II (60 marks) covers either Arts subjects (English, Odia, History, Political Science, Geography, Economics) or Science subjects (Physical Science, Bio-Science, Mathematics). Candidates must apply through the SAMS portal (te.samsodisha.gov.in).
Ques. Can a student from Science background apply for B.Ed Arts stream at KUU?
Ans. No. The B.Ed programme has two streams: Arts and Science. Candidates from Arts/Commerce backgrounds apply for the Arts stream, and candidates from Science/Engineering backgrounds apply for the Science stream. The entrance test Section II is also stream-specific. Seats are distributed 50:50 between Arts and Science streams. Candidates must select their stream at the time of filling the CAF.
Ques. What is the age limit for B.Ed admission at KUU?
Ans. As per the 2025-26 brochure, the age limit (as on 01.05.2025) is: General male candidates - 28 years; SC/ST/SEBC and all female candidates - 33 years; PwD candidates - 38 years. For the 2026-27 session, the age limit will be calculated as on 01.05.2026. Candidates are advised to check the official SAMS B.Ed brochure for the exact age criteria each year.
Ques. After completing B.Ed from KUU, what are the next steps to become a government school teacher in Odisha?
Ans. After completing B.Ed, the steps are: (a) Appear for OTET (Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test) - Paper I for Classes I-V and Paper II for Classes VI-VIII; (b) Apply for teacher recruitment through the Odisha School Teacher Recruitment Board (OSSTET) or district-level recruitment; (c) For central government schools (KVS, NVS), appear for CTET and the respective recruitment exam. Additionally, graduates can pursue M.Ed for a career in teacher education or academic research.
