SMEC Diploma Embedded Systems FAQs
Ques. Can I get lateral entry into B.Tech after completing this diploma?
Ans. Yes. After completing the Diploma in Embedded Systems Engineering, you are eligible to apply for lateral entry into the 2nd year of B.Tech programs (typically ECE, EEE, or related branches) through TS ECET (Telangana State Engineering Common Entrance Test). This is one of the biggest advantages of pursuing a diploma - it gives you a direct pathway to a degree program, saving one year compared to starting B.Tech from scratch.
Ques. Is TS POLYCET mandatory for admission, or can I get direct admission to SMEC?
Ans. TS POLYCET is the primary route for 70% of seats (merit/government quota). However, 30% of seats at SMEC are available under the management quota, for which you can apply directly to the college without a POLYCET rank. For management quota, contact SMEC's admissions office directly or visit the campus at Deshmukhi, Hyderabad.
Ques. What is the difference between the Diploma in Embedded Systems at SMEC and a regular Diploma in ECE?
Ans. The Diploma in Embedded Systems Engineering is a specialized program focused specifically on microcontrollers, microprocessors, RTOS, IoT, and embedded software development. A regular Diploma in ECE (Electronics and Communication Engineering) is broader and covers communication systems, signal processing, and general electronics. The Embedded Systems diploma is more industry-specific and directly prepares students for roles in the automotive, consumer electronics, and IoT sectors.
Ques. What kind of jobs can I get after this diploma?
Ans. After completing the Diploma in Embedded Systems Engineering, you can work as a Junior Embedded Engineer, PCB Design Technician, IoT Technician, Electronics Technician, or Automation Technician. Entry-level salaries typically range from Rs. 1.5 to 3 LPA. Companies in the automotive, consumer electronics, defense, and industrial automation sectors actively hire diploma holders. You can also pursue further studies through lateral entry B.Tech or specialized PG diploma programs.
Ques. Does SMEC have hostel facilities for diploma students?
Ans. Yes, SMEC has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls on campus. The hostel is optional and not mandatory for diploma students. The hostel fee is approximately Rs. 40,000 per year, which covers accommodation and mess facilities. The campus is located in Deshmukhi Village near Ramoji Film City, which is somewhat away from the city center, so hostel accommodation is recommended for outstation students.
Ques. Is the fee reimbursement (ePASS scholarship) available for diploma students at SMEC?
Ans. Yes, the Telangana government's ePASS Post Matric Scholarship is available for diploma students belonging to SC, ST, BC, and EBC categories studying in AICTE-approved institutions. Since SMEC is AICTE-approved, eligible students can apply for fee reimbursement through telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in. Given the annual tuition fee is only Rs. 15,500, eligible students from reserved categories can effectively study at minimal or no cost after the scholarship is applied.
