DBRAIT Diploma FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the Diploma in Hotel Management and Catering Technology and the Diploma in Food Production at DBRAIT?
Ans. The Diploma in Hotel Management and Catering Technology covers the full scope of hotel operations: front office, food and beverage service, housekeeping, food production, and basic hospitality management. It is the broader programme. The Diploma in Food Production focuses specifically on culinary arts, kitchen management, food preparation techniques, and menu planning, preparing students specifically for chef and kitchen management roles rather than hotel operations in general. Students who want a culinary specialisation should choose Food Production; those who want a wider exposure to hotel management across departments should choose Hotel Management and Catering Technology.
Ques. Is DBRAIT’s hospitality diploma recognised by the Hotel Management institute network or NCHMCT for further studies?
Ans. DBRAIT’s diploma programmes are affiliated to Pondicherry University and recognised by AICTE. They are not part of the NCHMCT (National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology) network directly, which runs its own Joint Entrance Examination for admissions to central hotel management institutes. However, diploma holders from DBRAIT can apply for lateral entry into the B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration programme at NCHMCT-affiliated colleges, subject to their eligibility criteria. For careers in the hotel industry, industry-specific certifications (FSSAI, FOOD SAFETY, WSET) can supplement the diploma regardless of the affiliation.
Ques. Does a Diploma in Front Office lead to any specific government jobs or PSU opportunities?
Ans. A Diploma in Front Office from DBRAIT opens paths in hotel reception, airport passenger services, airline ground handling, cruise line guest services, and tourism information centres. For government jobs, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration tourism department and ITDC (India Tourism Development Corporation) recruit hospitality diploma holders for frontline roles. The Central Government’s Department of Tourism periodically recruits for tourism promotion and information offices where a hospitality background is an advantage. Most Front Office diploma graduates, however, find their first jobs in private hotels and resorts in the Andaman Islands or on the mainland before transitioning to more senior government or PSU roles.
Ques. Can DBRAIT diploma graduates pursue a B.Sc. or degree in Hotel Management after completing the three-year programme?
Ans. Yes. Diploma holders from DBRAIT can apply for lateral entry into the second year of B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration programmes at NCHMCT-affiliated colleges or Pondicherry University-affiliated hospitality degree colleges, subject to their lateral entry eligibility criteria. Some private hotel management colleges also offer direct second-year lateral entry for diploma holders. Completing the diploma also satisfies the minimum qualification for NCHMCT JEE-based B.Sc. programmes, where a diploma or 10+2 is the basic eligibility. The DBRAIT diploma combined with two to three years of industry experience is a strong foundation for a degree upgrade.
Ques. What are realistic career options after completing the DBRAIT Diploma in Food Production in the Andaman Islands?
Ans. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a growing tourism industry with resorts, cruise ships, dive centres, and government-run guest houses that hire culinary staff locally. Food Production diploma holders from DBRAIT can find entry-level positions as commis chefs or kitchen assistants in these establishments. The low competition in the local market relative to mainland hospitality graduates can be an advantage for locally domiciled students. Those who want broader career options typically relocate to Chennai, Bengaluru, or Delhi for entry-level kitchen positions in hotel chains, then build up to senior chef roles over three to five years.
