DBRAIT B.Tech FAQs
Ques. Is DBRAIT’s B.Tech degree recognised outside the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for jobs and higher studies on the mainland?
Ans. Yes. DBRAIT is affiliated to Pondicherry University, a central university, and is approved by AICTE. B.Tech degrees from DBRAIT carry the same national recognition as any other AICTE-approved, UGC-recognised B.Tech degree. Graduates can apply for central government technical jobs (UPSC Engineering Services, PSUs through GATE), campus placements, and M.Tech admissions at any IIT, NIT, or private technical university on the mainland. The island location of the college does not affect the validity or recognition of the degree.
Ques. What JEE Main percentile is typically required to get into DBRAIT for CSE versus Civil or Electronics?
Ans. DBRAIT is not listed in JoSAA’s central seat allotment system as a NITor centrally-funded technical institute; admission is through the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s separate counselling based on JEE Main scores. As a government college with a small intake, CSE tends to fill at a lower percentile than mainstream NIT CSE seats. The exact cut-off varies year to year and is published on the administration portal when the merit list is released. Candidates with JEE Main scores in the 50-70 percentile range are competitive for DBRAIT; however, verifying the previous year’s cut-off on the official portal is the best way to assess your chances.
Ques. Can students from outside the Andaman and Nicobar Islands apply to DBRAIT, or is it only for Island domicile candidates?
Ans. DBRAIT is open to candidates from across India; there is no domicile restriction for the general category seats. A portion of seats is reserved for candidates domiciled in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands under the Island quota, but the remaining seats are filled based on JEE Main merit from the national pool. Students from mainland India who are comfortable with the island geography and modest fee structure regularly apply and join DBRAIT. The key requirement is a valid JEE Main score and meeting the Class 12 PCM eligibility criteria.
Ques. Is there a placement cell at DBRAIT and what kind of companies recruit B.Tech graduates from here?
Ans. DBRAIT has a training and placement cell, but campus recruitment is limited compared to mainland colleges given the island location and small batch size. Most B.Tech graduates pursue government sector opportunities (UPSC, SSC, Andaman and Nicobar Administration), GATE-based admissions for M.Tech, or placements through off-campus routes on the mainland. CSE graduates with strong programming skills often apply to IT companies remotely or relocate to Hyderabad, Bengaluru, or Chennai after graduation. For on-campus company recruitment, expectations should be calibrated to a small government college; the degree’s recognition is its strongest asset.
Ques. Does DBRAIT offer any B.Tech bridge programmes or foundation courses for students who are weak in Mathematics or Physics going into the first year?
Ans. DBRAIT, like most affiliated government technical colleges, follows the Pondicherry University curriculum and does not formally run a separately branded bridge programme. However, first-year students typically receive supplementary coaching from faculty during the initial weeks for students with weaker Class 12 foundations. The small batch size at DBRAIT means faculty attention per student is higher than at large private engineering colleges. Students who find the first-year Mathematics or Physics content challenging should use NPTEL courses and the college library for self-preparation alongside regular classes.
