SRMC BSc Hons FAQs

Ques. How does the final-year research project in BSc Hons at SRMC benefit PG admissions?

Ans. The final-year research project exposes students to literature review, hypothesis-building, and data collection under a faculty guide. Universities offering MSc programmes, especially in Biomedical Sciences and Medical Microbiology, value candidates who already have a research project on their record. At SRMC, students have access to SRIHER labs and can collaborate with clinical departments, increasing the quality of the project compared to what smaller private colleges can offer.

Ques. What career pathways are open after BSc Hons Biomedical Sciences from SRMC Chennai?

Ans. BSc Hons Biomedical Sciences graduates can pursue MSc at institutions including IISc and central universities. Industry roles include research assistant positions at pharma R&D labs and medical device companies. Graduates with a strong research project are more competitive for CSIR-UGC NET JRF and ICMR fellowship-based PhD admissions. Some also move into clinical research associate roles at CROs, which is a fast-growing career track in India.

Ques. Is BSc Hons Sports and Exercise Sciences from SRMC suitable for a career in professional sports medicine?

Ans. BSc Hons Sports and Exercise Sciences is a foundational degree and does not qualify graduates to diagnose or treat sports injuries independently. The programme prepares students for roles in sports performance coaching, fitness assessment, and strength and conditioning under supervision. For clinical sports medicine roles, graduates typically pursue MSc Exercise Physiology or Physiotherapy (MPT Sports) after this degree. It is best suited for aspiring sports performance analysts and fitness coaches.

Ques. What is the difference between BSc Hons Cardiac Care Technology and BSc Hons Allied Health Sciences?

Ans. BSc Hons Cardiac Care Technology is a dedicated 4-year programme focused on echocardiography, catheterisation lab assistance, and invasive cardiac monitoring. Graduates work exclusively in cardiac departments. BSc Hons Allied Health Sciences covers multiple health disciplines, suited for students who want flexibility in their hospital role. Cardiac Care Technology carries higher fees (INR 5L to 6.25L) but offers a more specific and in-demand skill set at graduation.

Ques. How competitive is BSc Hons Medical Biotechnology admission at SRMC compared to other BSc Hons programmes?

Ans. BSc Hons Medical Biotechnology tends to attract students from both biology and chemistry backgrounds and is among the more competitive specialisations at SRMC due to its research scope. SRIHER biotechnology labs and affiliation with medical research networks give this programme stronger infrastructure than most standalone biotechnology colleges in Chennai. Admission is merit-based on Class 12 marks and SRIHER entrance evaluation. The programme is suited for students planning to pursue MSc Biotechnology or PhD in life sciences.
