ISI MS(QMS) FAQs
Ques. Is the MS (QMS) programme at ISI Hyderabad the same as the newly renamed MS (QMBA)? Will my degree certificate say QMS or QMBA?
Ans. From the 2026-27 session, ISI has officially renamed the MS in Quality Management Sciences [MS (QMS)] to MS in Quality Management and Business Analytics [MS (QMBA)]. This reflects an updated curriculum that incorporates business analytics alongside the existing quality management content. Students admitted from 2026-27 onwards will receive a degree certificate in the name of MS (QMBA). Students who were admitted in earlier batches under MS (QMS) will continue to receive their degree under the old name. The core focus on quality, reliability, and operations research remains, with added emphasis on analytics.
Ques. The programme says 1st year is at Bengaluru and 2nd year is at Hyderabad. Does ISI provide hostel accommodation at both centres?
Ans. Yes, ISI provides hostel accommodation at both its Bengaluru and Hyderabad centres for admitted students, subject to availability. Students are expected to reside at the respective centre during their semesters. The hostel charges are nominal and are separate from the stipend. Students are advised to confirm hostel availability and charges directly with the respective ISI centres (ISI Bengaluru: isibang.ac.in; ISI Hyderabad: isihyd.ac.in) at the time of admission.
Ques. What is the scope of the MS (QMS) / MS (QMBA) degree from ISI? What kind of jobs do graduates get?
Ans. Graduates of the MS (QMS) / MS (QMBA) programme from ISI are highly sought after in quality management, reliability engineering, operations research, and data analytics roles. Typical job profiles include Quality Manager, Quality Analyst, Six Sigma Black Belt, Reliability Engineer, Operations Research Analyst, and Supply Chain Analyst. Recruiters include manufacturing companies, automotive firms, pharmaceutical companies, IT/ITES firms, and consulting organisations. Given ISI's reputation as an Institution of National Importance, the degree carries significant weight in both industry and academia. Some graduates also pursue PhD programmes at ISI or other premier institutions.
Ques. Can I apply for the MS (QMS) / MS (QMBA) programme if I have a B.Tech degree but Mathematics was not a separate subject in my curriculum?
Ans. The eligibility criterion requires a Bachelor's degree of three or more years' duration in any discipline, with Mathematics as a subject at the undergraduate level. For B.Tech graduates, Mathematics is typically a core subject in the first two years of the curriculum, which generally satisfies this requirement. However, if your B.Tech programme did not include Mathematics as a formal subject, your application may not be considered. It is advisable to check your transcript and confirm with the ISI admission office (admissionsupport@isical.ac.in) before applying.
Ques. Is there any age limit or work experience requirement for admission to the MS (QMS) / MS (QMBA) programme at ISI Hyderabad?
Ans. There is no age limit or mandatory work experience requirement for regular candidates applying to the MS (QMS) / MS (QMBA) programme. Fresh graduates are eligible to apply. However, for sponsored candidates, the sponsoring organisation must be a government, semi-government, public sector, autonomous institution, or commercial/industrial organisation, and the candidate must have relevant work experience (as the sponsorship implies active employment). The ISI Admission Test is the primary selection criterion, and academic merit is the key factor.
Ques. The application window for 2026-27 has already closed (March 26, 2026). Can I still apply or is there any late application provision?
Ans. The online application window for ISI Admission 2026-27 (for all programmes except BSDS) closed on March 26, 2026. There is no official late application provision mentioned for this programme. If you missed the 2026-27 application window, you will need to wait for the 2027-28 admission cycle, which typically opens in February 2027. It is strongly recommended to bookmark the official ISI admission portal (admission.isical.ac.in) and check for announcements from December 2026 onwards for the next cycle.
