TKMIT B.Tech AI & ML FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech CS (AI) and B.Tech CS (AI & ML) at TKMIT, and which one should I choose?

Ans. TKMIT offers two AI-focused B.Tech programmes: CS (Artificial Intelligence) and CS (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning). The CS (AI & ML) programme, launched in 2023, has a stronger emphasis on machine learning methodologies, data science, and ML frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch, alongside core AI topics. The CS (AI) programme focuses more broadly on artificial intelligence principles. Both are affiliated to KTU and have 60 seats each. Students interested in data science, ML engineering, and industry roles in tech companies may prefer CS (AI & ML), while those interested in broader AI research and applications may consider CS (AI). Both programmes have similar fee structures and admission processes through KEAM.

Ques. Since the CS (AI & ML) programme at TKMIT was launched only in 2023, how can I assess its quality and placement prospects?

Ans. The CS (AI & ML) programme at TKMIT was launched in 2023, which means the first batch will graduate around 2027. As a result, there is limited placement data specific to this programme yet. However, TKMIT's overall placement record for CS-related branches is strong, with companies like Juspay, Oracle, Commvault, and Credit visiting the campus. The programme is AICTE-approved and KTU-affiliated, ensuring curriculum quality. The dedicated AI and ML Lab, industry-standard tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras), and the college's established placement cell provide a strong foundation. Students should also leverage internships and online certifications to strengthen their profiles.

Ques. What KEAM rank is typically required to get B.Tech CS (AI & ML) at TKMIT under Merit quota?

Ans. Since the CS (AI & ML) programme is relatively new (launched 2023), historical KEAM cutoff data is limited. However, given that it is an AI/ML-focused programme at a reputed institution like TKMIT, the demand is expected to be high, similar to CSE. Based on available data, students with KEAM ranks in the range of 10,000-25,000 may have a reasonable chance for Merit quota seats, though this can vary each year. Students should check the latest KEAM allotment data on the CEE Kerala portal (cee.kerala.gov.in) for the most recent cutoff ranks. For Management quota, students can apply directly to TKMIT regardless of KEAM rank.

Ques. What programming languages and tools will I learn in the B.Tech CS (AI & ML) programme at TKMIT?

Ans. The B.Tech CS (AI & ML) curriculum at TKMIT provides hands-on training in Python, Java, R, and C++ as core programming languages. Students also get exposure to industry-standard ML libraries and frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, and Scikit-learn. The curriculum covers data structures, algorithms, database management, and software engineering alongside AI/ML-specific subjects like deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. The dedicated AI and ML Lab and computer labs with latest hardware ensure students get practical experience with real-world tools used in the industry.

Ques. Is the B.Tech CS (AI & ML) at TKMIT NBA accredited, and does the college have any rankings?

Ans. The B.Tech CS (AI & ML) programme at TKMIT is not yet eligible for NBA accreditation as it was launched in 2023 and NBA accreditation typically requires a programme to have at least one graduating batch. However, TKMIT's other programmes like CSE, Food Technology, and Biomedical Engineering are NBA accredited for 3 years (up to June 2027). The institution is AICTE-approved and affiliated to KTU. TKMIT is a well-established private engineering college in Kerala under the TKM College Trust, with a track record of over two decades in technical education.

Ques. Can I switch from B.Tech CS (AI & ML) to B.Tech CSE or another branch after joining TKMIT?

Ans. Branch change within TKMIT after the first year is possible subject to the college's internal rules, availability of seats in the desired branch, and the student's academic performance (typically based on first-year CGPA). The process is governed by KTU regulations and the college's own branch change policy. Students interested in switching should check with the college administration at the time of admission for the specific criteria and timeline. It is advisable to choose the preferred branch at the time of KEAM counselling itself, as branch changes are not guaranteed and depend on seat availability.
