Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech Lateral Data Science and B.Tech Lateral CSE at MNRCET?
Ans. B.Tech Lateral Data Science at MNRCET focuses specifically on data analytics, machine learning, statistical computing, big data frameworks, and AI applications. B.Tech Lateral CSE covers a broader computing curriculum including algorithms, operating systems, networking, software engineering, and databases, with only some data-focused electives. Both are three-year lateral entry programmes with the same total fee of INR 1,80,000 at MNRCET. Data Science is better aligned for students targeting analytics roles, while CSE suits those seeking broader software engineering careers.
Ques. Is B.Tech Lateral Data Science at MNRCET equivalent to a regular B.Tech degree?
Ans. Yes. The B.Tech Lateral Entry in Data Science awarded by MNRCET under JNTUH affiliation is equivalent to a regular B.Tech degree as per AICTE and JNTUH norms. Lateral entry students join the second year of the B.Tech programme and complete the remaining three years. The degree carries full recognition from employers and educational institutions across India, just as a standard four-year B.Tech in the same discipline would, with Data Science as the registered specialisation.
Ques. What scholarships are available for B.Tech Lateral Data Science students at MNRCET?
Ans. Telangana students from BC, SC, ST, EBC, and minority communities are eligible for TS ePass, which reimburses the full tuition fee subject to income criteria. Applications are submitted through telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in each year. SC/ST students with annual family income below INR 2.5 Lakhs may also apply for the Central Post-Matric Scholarship for maintenance and tuition support. Both schemes apply to lateral entry students enrolled in JNTUH-affiliated B.Tech programmes at MNRCET, including the Data Science track.
