GITAM M.Sc FAQs
Ques. Can I get admission to M.Sc Applied Mathematics at GITAM without appearing for JAM or CUET PG? Is GAT sufficient?
Ans. Yes, GAT (GITAM Admission Test) is GITAM's own entrance exam and is fully sufficient for admission to M.Sc Applied Mathematics at GITAM Visakhapatnam. You do not need to appear for JAM or CUET PG. GAT is a computer-based test conducted at GITAM's own centres, and the application fee is Rs. 600. However, if you have a good JAM rank or CUET PG score, you can use those scores to claim higher merit scholarships, so it is advisable to appear for national-level exams if you are aiming for scholarship benefits.

Ques. What is the difference between M.Sc Applied Mathematics and M.Sc Mathematics at GITAM? Which one should I choose?
Ans. GITAM Visakhapatnam offers M.Sc Applied Mathematics, which focuses on practical applications of mathematical concepts in areas like data science, finance, operations research, and scientific computing. The curriculum is industry-oriented with specialisation bundles in Data Science, Machine Learning, and MATLAB. If your goal is to work in industry, data analytics, or quantitative finance, Applied Mathematics is the better choice. If you are aiming for a pure research career in theoretical mathematics or want to appear for academic positions, you may want to compare with pure M.Sc Mathematics programmes at other universities. At GITAM Visakhapatnam, the Applied Mathematics programme is the primary PG offering in this discipline.
