ALIET B.Tech {Lateral} CSE FAQs
Q1. What is the difference between regular B.Tech CSE and B.Tech {Lateral} CSE at ALIET?
Ans. The regular B.Tech CSE is a 4-year program starting from the 1st year, while B.Tech {Lateral} CSE is a 3-year program where diploma holders directly enter the 2nd year. The lateral entry program covers the same curriculum from 2nd year onwards. Diploma holders save one year of study time and fees compared to the regular program.

Ans. Diploma holders in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT), Computer Applications, and other related disciplines are eligible for lateral entry into B.Tech CSE at ALIET through AP ECET. The exact list of eligible diploma branches is specified in the AP ECET notification each year.
Q3. How many lateral entry seats are available in B.Tech CSE at ALIET?
Ans. As per AICTE norms, 20% of the total sanctioned intake is reserved for lateral entry. The B.Tech CSE program at ALIET has a total intake of 180 seats, so approximately 36 seats are available for lateral entry through AP ECET. However, the actual number may vary based on APSCHE guidelines each year.
Q4. What are the career prospects after completing B.Tech {Lateral} CSE from ALIET?
Ans. B.Tech CSE graduates from ALIET have strong career prospects in software development, data science, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and AI/ML. The lateral entry B.Tech degree is treated on par with the regular B.Tech degree for all employment purposes.
Q5. Is the AP ECET rank the only criterion for lateral entry admission, or are there other factors?
Ans. For the Convener Quota (70% of lateral entry seats), AP ECET rank is the primary criterion. The remaining 30% (Management Quota) seats are filled by the institution based on diploma merit. Candidates with higher AP ECET ranks in the CSE/IT paper have better chances of securing admission at ALIET. Category-wise reservations (SC/ST/BC/EWS) also apply during counselling.
Q6. Can a diploma holder from a polytechnic outside Andhra Pradesh apply for lateral entry B.Tech CSE at ALIET?
Ans. Yes, diploma holders from polytechnics outside Andhra Pradesh can apply for the Management Quota (B-category, 30% seats) at ALIET. For the Convener Quota, candidates must have an AP ECET rank. Non-AP diploma holders can appear for AP ECET if they meet the eligibility criteria. Management Quota applications are invited through advertisements in regional newspapers and the college website.
