KIMS MD FAQs
Ques. Why does KIMS offer a stipend when the MD fee is already ₹63 lakhs?
Ans. KIMS provides a monthly stipend of ₹49,000 to ₹53,000 as part of its PG residency structure, recognising that MD students contribute significantly to patient care and hospital operations. The stipend is paid by KIMS and is separate from the fee paid by the student. Over 3 years, the cumulative stipend amounts to ₹17 to ₹19 lakhs, which partially reduces the effective cost of the programme.
Ques. How are MD seats at KIMS distributed through MCC counselling?
Ans. KIMS is a private medical college and its MD seats are listed under the Management Quota in MCC PG counselling. Candidates register on the MCC portal at mcc.nic.in, fill their choice of institute and specialisation, and are allotted seats based on NEET PG merit and their preference order. There is no separate AIQ or state quota process for KIMS; all seats are filled through this MCC-managed process.
Ques. Is KIMS Bhubaneswar MD valid for NEET SS and government specialist posts?
Ans. Yes. KIMS is part of KIIT Deemed to be University and the MD programme is NMC-recognised. Graduates are eligible for NEET SS (DM/MCh super-speciality admissions), DNB examinations, and specialist posts in government health services across India. Graduates must register with the Odisha Medical Council or another state medical council after degree award.
Ques. What is MD Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion at KIMS, and what career does it lead to?
Ans. MD in Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) is an NMC-recognised specialisation focused on blood banking, transfusion medicine, blood group serology, and haematology. It is a laboratory-based specialisation and is relatively less common in private medical colleges. Graduates work as transfusion medicine specialists in blood banks, teaching hospitals, and research institutions. IHBT graduates are also eligible for NEET SS in related super-specialities, making it a viable path for those interested in laboratory-based specialist medicine.
Ques. What clinical training does KIMS offer for MD students given its 800-bed hospital?
Ans. KIMS’s 800-bed tertiary care teaching hospital serves a large patient population in Odisha and Eastern India, giving MD students exposure to diverse clinical cases across all specialisations. Students rotate through wards, ICUs, OPDs, and emergency departments under faculty supervision. All MD programmes include an NMC-mandated research thesis; the curriculum also covers journal clubs, academic seminars, and teaching responsibilities with MBBS undergraduates.
