  • PhD in Nursing at the University of Victoria is offered as a 4-years program by the School of Nursing.

  • A PhD in nursing is the culmination of your deep, active knowledge of nursing. Students will examine and further develop the intersections of research, education, and advanced practice nursing.
  • In this self-directed program, students will develop a strong grounding in philosophical thought, expertise in research methodologies, and conduct independent research. 
  • Students will become a leader in your field through clinical practica or co-op learning opportunities.
  • The PhD program consists of a minimum of 44 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Nursing or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A grade point average of 7.0/9.0 (A- average) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
  • An advanced level (500 or higher) university statistics course is required prior to beginning the PhD program in September.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • Students must complete a bachelor’s and master's degree in Nursing or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
