Admission Experience
- Canada has ranked top among the countries with the finest educational institutions St. Clair College had an average reputation, but it was one of those few colleges that offered the course Data Analytics for Business Windsor is closest to the US city Detroit, and it's easy to get a visit visa to the US here. Not many career opportunities exist at Windsor other than a few part-time opportunities. My overall experience is average for me in terms of both academics and extracurricular activities.
Class Schedule
- 4 days a week and 3 classes a day with more credit courses taking up to 2-3 hours a day and 1-hour classes for less credit courses. Class timings are from 8 AM to 3 PM or 2 PM to 9 PM. The average strength per class is 60, and 90% of the students are Indians. Daily, 3 to 3.5 hours is required on daily basis other than regular classes for assignments and self-study
Faculty
- A good number of faculty members are present on the campus and available to contact regarding academics. The best faculty members for me were Nardishah, Osama Hamza, and John. These members have helped students not only in academics but also by making the classes more interactive and interesting. A few faculty members don't encourage part-timers, while others might provide references.
- Pros: Some faculty members were very jovial and patiently answered every student's doubt. The main campus was huge and not less than any university campus. The courses were taught theoretically and practically. This gave hands-on experience before the job.
- Cons: Only a few faculty members have the skills to teach and answer students' questions. No effort in conducting an exam with questions available word for word on the internet.
Campus Life
- The number of campuses in the Windsor and Essex counties is 3: the main campus and riverside in Windsor and another one in Chatham. Most amenities are present on the main campus south of the Windsor, like a basketball court and an open auditorium.
- Fests like the Bollywood musical nights and events related to Canadian culture and heritage happen often on the college.
Part Time Jobs
- Most Indian students prefer to work in superstores like Walmart, Costco, and Freshco or warehouses like The Home Depot. Students also work in local convenience stores on the streets and also register with agencies that take up contracts to work in warehouses or house contracts. I worked in a warehouse for an agency called Legacy.
- Few students work as assistants to the faculty members. No idea about the pay. The off-campus jobs usually pay around CAD 17 per hour and it is allowed to work 20 hours per week. It is tough to find internships, as Windsor is considered a county and still needs references from either seniors or faculty members to get the opportunities
Placement
- This is based on the efforts you put in after graduating or completing the course in the college. We were a group of 8 friends, and all of us secured a job within 7 months after completing the course. But on average, it takes around 9-10 months to secure a job. The average pay for freshers is 48k to 60k in an MNC annually. Students use LinkedIn, monster.com, and Indeed to apply for jobs. Highest and lowest are based on the company. A local company can offer around 40k, whereas an MNC can offer 65-70k annually.
Accommodation
- Websites like Kijiji.ca provide details about what kind of house you require. You can check out houses or apartments and contact house owners and managers to chat about rent or even call them. You might find the rents too high as of now due to inflation and population increase. Try searching for a house to rent before going to Canada.
