Required Exams for Admission
TMU is the only university in North America that offers a business-savvy bachelor's program. Creative Industries is a highly unique program that allows students to choose a specialization from among 12 industry modules. My overall experience at TMU has been fun, educational and exciting. The combination of rigorous academics, supportive faculty, vibrant campus life, and excellent internship opportunities has prepared me well for my future career in the creative industries.
Course Curriculum
The courses in the Creative Industries program depend largely on the specialization module chosen by the student. I enrolled in 'The Art and Business of Film' and 'Storytelling in Media,' both of which include a combination of hands-on and theoretical courses, covering industrial exposure and research experience.
Faculty
All the professors are equally attentive to students during auditorium lectures, as they also use and provide microphones to students who have doubts during class. Professor Salman Rana, who taught copyrights, has a teaching style that is extremely fun, engaging, and entertaining.
Campus Life
All the clubs are welcoming. I worked for 6ixx FC as their videographer for a football documentary; it was a paid university job for which I was interviewed. During my third year, I participated in co-ed intramural cricket at TMU. Every building has WiFi, and since TMU is close to malls and food chains, it makes it easy for students to grab snacks in between classes.
Placement
To complete the Creative Industries program, all students are required to undertake a mandatory internship for experiential learning. While students are responsible for finding an internship, the program advisor assists with available job openings and helps with writing resumes.
Accommodation
I live in downtown core Toronto with 2 roommates and pay 1,700 CAD per month for a deluxe room in an apartment managed by Pearson Housing, a student housing company. They arrange roommates and assign individuals to rooms.
