  • The Honours BCom in Financial Service at George Brown College is offered as a 4 years (8 semesters) business degree program.
  • This course is offered on a full-time basis and part-time studies are not available for this program.
  • After the first year of studies, students can choose from either the Accounting or financial planning.
  • The co-op experience usually occurs between the 6th and 7th semesters if taken in one block and all 420 hours must be completed before the seventh semester.
  • Students are seeking a career as a professional accountant or a financial planner, this program provides the skills, knowledge, and real-world experience to help career succeed.
  • The program includes:
    • Accounting, banking management, administration, and financial planning theory, as well as the practice of applying concepts in the real world.
    • A state-of-the-art facility that includes network-ready wireless classrooms and study areas.
    • A curriculum that is current and has been developed with input from industry partners, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, and the Financial Planners Standards Council.
  • The student to faculty ratio at the college of this program is 19:1.
  • Students must successfully complete 41 courses and 1 integrated work experience in order to complete their degree.
  • The cost of the work experience preparation course and the work experience semester are included in the first-year tuition.
  • This program is approved for OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) funding, provided the applicants to meet OSAP eligibility criteria.
  • In addition to on-the-job work experience, George Brown College endeavors to provide field education opportunities with real-world challenges and clients.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 University (U) or University/College (M) courses.
  • A grade of at least 60% in all prerequisite courses (English and Maths).
  • Must be graduated from senior secondary school or equivalent (those applying for a postgraduate program must have graduated from a university or college).
  • Students may also be able to meet English proficiency requirements by completing the appropriate ESL(English as a second language) level at one of the college language school partners.

Work Experience Eligibility: 

  • Work experience is required as part of this program.
  • A work-integrated learning experience that amounts to no less than 14 weeks of full-time equivalent work.
  • Work Experience offers the opportunity to:
    • Students are also strongly encouraged to pursue self-directed industry work experience opportunities and believe would provide the learning experiences value and meet the learning outcomes of the program.
  • Students must successfully complete 41 courses and one Integrated Work Experience in order to complete their degree.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria

  • Students must be graduated from senior secondary school or equivalent (those applying for a postgraduate program must have graduated from a university or college).
  • Minimum 5 major subjects in 12th Grade, including English, with an average of 65% and no course less than 60%.
  • If Math was not taken in 12th Grade, Mathematics from Grade 10 or 11 (or from any post-secondary courses taken) may be considered if the grade is at 70% or higher.
  • For some degree programs, minimum grades in Grade 12 Science courses are also required.
  • Students have to submit the All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) or Indian School Certificate (ISC) or Year 10+2 State Board certificate.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
