Dislikes
- Located in a sub urban area unlike cities like Sydney or Melbourne.
- Limited companies in its vicinity.
- Low scholarships provided to students.
Campus Life
- My university has 5 campuses located in Callaghan, Newcastle City, Central Coast (Ourimbah), Sydney, and one in Singapore.
- Almost every facility is available for students in the university; it is up to the students to utilise these resources.
- Many major events happen every year in the university; some that happen are open days, university club exhibitions, and much more. There are some that occur that I don't know the names for.
- There are various clubs and extracurricular activities for students. Almost every sport has a club to join and there's student organisations called UNSA that support everything that is related to students.
Accommodation
- There are many student accommodation agents who'll help in finding accommodation, i found an house through Facebook where an person posted rooms available and through that, I was able to get accommodation.
- The weekly rent of my accommodation is 200 aud, which comes to 800 aud per month, it includes all electricity and water bill, along with wifi. The room includes a single bed, a study table, and a wardrobe. And the bathrooms are common.
- Finding accommodation based on our preferences, such as location and price, is tough; either we have to find further from the university for less rent or pay high prices to meet our preferences.
- For future students, try to book accommodation through some students already studying there, as they might know some cheaper rental options available and try to get a part-time job as soon as possible to be able to earn enough to choose the accommodation you prefer, as those might help you expand your options when searching for rent.

- This was a uni that had some great microbiology lecturers and a strong research focused labs.
- The best things about UoN are the Campus atmosphere, knowledge quality, study opportunities, experienced lecturers, friendliness, range of subjects and courses, good facilities, cheaper courses compared to other unis.
Dislikes
- The things that are not so great are the location, can be many mosquito's at dusk time. There aren't too many late night activities for students, although the town is close by. There aren't enough people studying some courses.
Campus Life
Campus is quiet since city of Newcastle is quite small. There are lots of activities for students based on a variety of interests. Activities range from sports, chess, cultural, rock climbing, reading and many more. There are multiple libraries and super fast internet all over campus.
Accommodation
There is accommodation on campus which has great rooms and facilities, may be a little pricey. Plenty of rental options in town.
I opted for this college as it has a smaller cohort than other universities in NSW. There is less competition to gain entry with a lower ATAR required. Located up the coast, it has more opportunities to partner with professional sport clubs whereas Sydney universities are competing with others to participate in placement and sporting opportunities.
Accommodation
I live off campus and I had to find my accommodation on my own, but university did help a bit to find off campus accomodation by providing the students with the information and webpages to find houses on lease near the university proximity. The rent mostly include everything but some accommodation could be subject to electricity, gas and water bill. Living off campus can be relatively cheaper compare to on campus accomodation.
Every since my high school, I had the aspirations to pursue my graduation in a reputed foreign university. I choose University of Newcastle because of its ideal location, which is perfect for work life balance. Due to Newcastle being near Sydney, that allows me to be close knit to my extended family living in Sydney and catch up on weekends. carried a strong passion towards accounting & finance, and I can clearly comprehend the importance of my field of study for some global player to tap the global market or economy.
Accommodation
I am living on-campus at the University of Newcastle in Edwards Hall. It is a good residence that is catered and is within 10 minutes' walking distance from most of my classes. It can be slightly noisy at times but good to meet new people outside of the degree.
Good program, relatively close to home. I only got into two options for medicine, one of which was Adelaide which is a plane trip away for me. Newcastle (while it is 5 hours away) was closer and provided a city close to that of my hometown (Canberra). The program is also highly regarded, I think it's the 3rd best program in Australia and I like the learning structure.
Location- close to home and I can't afford to live out of home, the quality of education is high, and most courses have high employment rates after graduation. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are of high quality.
Accommodation
I lived home with my parents. I didn\ t learn how to drive until the year I completed my course. I caught the bus to and from uni each day. Since I finished, the buses in the Newcastle area have all changed and I would not be able to catch the bus home after uni any more because the bus to my suburb stops at 5 pm. There is on campus accommodation as well.
It was the local/nearby campus which allowed me to live at home (with parents) whilst studying to save money as accommodation options were very expensive. It also offered the course I was interested in completing and my year advisor at school recommended the local university to all students.
