Course Curriculum

8

  • The syllabus is pretty up to date and covers current industry tools and frameworks. We get decent industrial exposure through guest lectures, case studies, and group projects with real company scenarios.
  • Usually, I have 2 to 3 classes a day, mostly between 10 AM and 6 PM, with each class running 2 to 3 hours. Class sizes vary; smaller electives have around 25 students while core subjects can go up to 50 or 60.

Admission Experience

  • Choose UTS for its ranking and CBD location. Engineering Management mixes tech and business, which fits my goals. Applied directly through the UTS portal, got the offer in about 3 weeks. The process was simple; no agent was needed. Experience has been good overall.
  • Workload is heavy, but teaching quality makes up for it. Sydney is expensive but worth it for the work opportunities.

Faculty

8

  • Faculty to student ratio is roughly 1:25 to 1:30 for most subjects, smaller for tutorials. Most lecturers come from strong industry backgrounds, not just academic, which makes the content more practical. They're generally approachable, especially during consultation hours and via email.
  • Dr. Arti Agrawal in the Engineering faculty has been one of the standout supervisors for me, very supportive with project guidance and gives honest feedback. Sancheeta Pugalia, the project coordinator, is also super responsive whenever students hit roadblocks with admin or supervisor allocation.

Campus Life

10

  • UTS has one main campus near Central Station, super well-connected. Infrastructure is modern, and the new Tech Lab and Engineering building are great for project work. There are 200+ student clubs and societies covering everything from coding and robotics to cultural and sports clubs.
  • The library is open almost 24/7 during exams and has good study spaces. Sports facilities include the UTS Fitness Centre with a gym, pool, and group classes. Plenty of cultural events, hackathons, networking nights, and career fairs happen throughout the semester. Research facilities are solid too, especially in engineering and AI.

Part Time Jobs

  • Most students earn between AUD 25 and 32 per hour, with casual roles paying a bit more thanks to casual loading. Off-campus jobs in retail, hospitality, delivery (Uber Eats, Amazon Flex), and admin are easiest to find through SEEK, Indeed, or Jora. Student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during the semester and unlimited hours during breaks.
  • On-campus jobs are harder to land since spots are limited and competition is high. TA, RA, and DA positions go mostly to second-year or PhD students who already have rapport with faculty; only a small percentage of master's students get them. Most international students rely on off-campus gigs to cover expenses.

Placement

6

  • Roughly 70 to 80% of students secure jobs within 6 months of graduating, though it depends a lot on networking and how early you start applying. The average starting salary for Engineering Management graduates is around AUD 70,000 to 90,000 per year, which can increase if you secure roles at firms like Macquarie, Atlassian, or the big four banks.
  • Most students find jobs through LinkedIn, SEEK, and referrals from networking events. UTS CareerHub also lists graduate roles and internships. Campus recruitment isn't as strong as in India, so networking and direct applications matter more here.

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

  • I'm staying in shared accommodation, found it through Facebook Marketplace and a few WhatsApp groups for Indian students in Sydney. Flatmates.com.au is also a popular site, and some people use Roomster or Domain. Telegram groups for Sydney students helped narrow things down quickly.
  • My monthly rent is around AUD 1,200 to 1,400 for a shared room, which includes utilities, internet, and basic furniture. Closer to the city you'll easily pay AUD 1,500 to 2,000 for a shared room. UTS also has on-campus housing, but it's pricier and gets booked out fast.

Exams

  • Only IELTS was required, no GRE or GMAT for this course. For documents, I had to submit my bachelor's transcripts and degree certificate, IELTS scorecard, passport copy, a Statement of Purpose, and my CV.
  • LORs weren't mandatory, but I added two from my previous employers to strengthen the application.

Fees

  • For international students, the Master of Engineering Management is around AUD 20,000 to 25,000 per semester. Total course fees come to approximately AUD 50,000 to 70,000 for the full 2-year program.
