What Students Say?

- I chose Masters in Economics which has always been my subject of interest. The decision of choosing University of Sydney was the second after deciding the country. Australia looked like an untapped market in comparison to saturated UK job market. USA was the first choice only if offered an admission into the ivy league university. And once, Australia is a country was decided, University of Sydney is the first choice in terms of rankings, and Sydney being the financial capital of Australia.
- The facilities, campus, resources to do anything we want to do and large amount of encouragement the university gives to the students to pursue whatever they want.
Dislikes
- I have expected the university to have a placement cell where they call companies for campus placements, but nothing of this sort exists. We ourselves need to apply to companies and go through the recruitment process, university just trains us. This is the only thing until now which disappointed me.
I would say University of Sydney gives an excellent experience overall if we see holistically. The residents of the country play a very important role in our perception formation of how we like the place, and Australians are one of the warmest people I met.
Course Curriculum
Course syllabus is quite updated, and academics, including lectures and exams, both are given very high importance here.
Exams
For Australia, IELTS is a compulsory exam with a minimum score of 6.5, my score is 8. We need to upload CV which should ideally include the undergraduate scores and internships or work experience, if any. SOP is required only for the visa purposes.
Placement
Its a mixed picture, and since I am also in my first year, do not have much idea about it. If we trust rankings, then the University of Sydney is ranked 4th globally in terms of graduate employability.
Fees
AUD 108,000, Masters in Economics, two year program.
Scholarship
Yes, University of Sydney scholarship for international students which covered 20% of my fees.
Faculty
According to the web sources, the ratio has been 21:1 recently. Faculty and staff are very knowledgeable, tutors also take extra effort to make sure that students learn whatever is in the course and otherwise. University has allocated fixed consultation hours of the professors, we need to book an appointment and then go.
Campus Life
I would like to answer this question in one single word:- IMMENSE. The amount of facilities and campus life this university gives, we cannot even enjoy a quarter of it, because there is literally so much going on all the time.
Hostel
It terms of accommodation, Sydney is always in housing crisis, and therefore rents always remain in sky. For a decent accommodation, expect at least AUD 350-400 per week.
