  • Academic Background:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent for freshman applicants.
    • Completion of A-G subject courses with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for California residents and 3.4 for non-residents.
  • Academic Courses (A-G): Completion of 15 year-long academic courses including:
    • History/Social Science – 2 years
    • English – 4 years
    • Mathematics – 3 years (4 years, including Calculus, recommended for engineering)
    • Laboratory Science – 2 years (3 years, including Physics, recommended for engineering)
    • Language other than English – 2 years
    • Visual & Performing Arts – 1 year
    • College Preparatory Elective – 1 year
  • Minimum GPA: 
    • 2.0 overall GPA, 2.0 in major coursework.
    • 2.0 in upper-division major courses.
  • Biology Requirement: Biology 1A/1AL with grade C or better OR AP Biology score of 4 or 5.
  • Chemistry Requirement: Enrolled in or completed Chemistry 3B and passed early drop deadline.
  • Additional Required:
    • Courses Biology 1B.
    • Chemistry 1A/1AL, 3A/3AL, 3B/3BL.
    • Math 10A & 10B or 1A & 1B.
    • Physics 8A & 8B or 7A & 7B.

English Language Requirement

  • TOEFL iBT: 80 (Preferred: 100).
  • IELTS: 6.5.

 Exemptions for English Language Requirement

 Applicants may be exempt from providing English proficiency test scores if they have:

  • U.S. High School Education: Completed at least 3 years of high school in the U.S. with English as the language of instruction.
  • ACT Score: Achieved a score of 30 or higher on the ACT English Language Arts section.
  • SAT Score: Achieved a score of 680 or higher on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section.
  • College-Level English Course: Completed a transferable English composition course with a grade of C or better.
