Program Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of their Master of Science degree in the Physiology of Exercise the student will be able to:
- ??? discuss the role of the energy systems and contributions of required substrates in the performance of physical activities;
- ??? describe the normal cardiopulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal, endocrine and neurological responses to an exercise bout;
- ??? identify the physiological principles underlying chronic training adaptations and how these responses may differ between different ages, gender, ethnicity and health or physiological status;
- ??? demonstrate their knowledge of risk factors and the pathophysiology of the major chronic diseases;
- ??? apply their knowledge of physiology, exercise physiology and nutritional concepts to design exercise programs, which take into account participants? needs and considers their age, gender, ethnicity and health of physiological status;
- ??? evaluate current research and apply this knowledge to exercise and/or physiological situations;
- ??? propose appropriate research designs to develop and test a research hypothesis.
Program Overview:?
The Physiology of Exercise graduate program provides students with the specialized skills needed to work in either a clinical, academic or research environment.? Students can choose between two programs: research or clinical.
The Research program is a two-year program that requires completing a master?s thesis.? This track prepares students to work in an academic or research environment, encouraging students to become actively involved with faculty research and conducting their own research under the mentorship of faculty.
