The B.A. in Fine Arts in music is offered with a concentration in:

  • Jazz studies
  • Musicology - study of the history of music
  • Music theory
  • Piano/organ/orchestral instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp)
  • Voice

All students applying for School of Music undergraduate degrees (B.A., B.F.A., B.M., B.M.E. & music minor) must audition on an approved instrument.

A total of 120 credit hours is required. To graduate, a student must earn a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 in all major courses and a minimum average of 2.0 in all course work.

Students will gain knowledge in a variety of areas while pursuing the BA and may include any approved KU minor without adding extra credit hours to their degree program.  Students will be studying with faculty members who are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields and their instruments. Courses in Music Theory and Musicology are part of the exploration of music as are private instruction, ensemble and chamber music opportunities, as well as a senior performance recital.


Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Submit attested copy of high school and secondary school transcripts
  • Students need to have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a scale of 4.0 
  • Students need to appear for music audition 

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL iBT: minimum 79 required
  • IELTS: minimum 6.5 required
  • PTE Academic: minimum 53 required
  • ACT English: minimum 22 
  • SAT evidence based writing: minimum 590 required

Indian Student Specific Requirements:

  • Submit attested copy of higher secondary school examination (class 12)
  • Students must submit their original HSC or ISCE before admission
