The mathematics graduate program offers the degrees of Master of Arts (M.A.), including M.A. program for Secondary Teachers, Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in either pure or applied mathematics.

The Master's program in either pure or applied mathematics is intended for those students who want a professional education in mathematics beyond the Bachelor's degree level. The Master's program for Secondary Teachers is aimed at in-service teachers and features both mathematics and education classes. The Ph.D. program is designed for students interested in becoming professional scholars, college and university teachers, or independent workers in private, industrial, or government research institutions. The Ph.D. program is one of six mathematics Ph.D. programs in the state public university system, and one of only two in northeast Ohio.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Reason in mathematical arguments, including using precise definitions, articulating assumptions, and reasoning logically to conclusions.
  • Engage effectively in problem solving, including exploring examples, devising and testing conjectures, and assessing the correctness of solutions.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university to get admission to this program.
  • Students require a minimum GPA of 3 on a 4.0 scale for the program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Students must complete a 4-year undergraduate degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
  • Students need to submit minimum GRE exam scores for a better chance of admission.
  • Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
