Political Science is a dynamic field of study that empowers students to be engaged global citizens and informed consumers of information who are competitive in a range of careers. Kent State University Political Science alumni work in the public and private sectors across the United States and around the globe. Others go on to graduate programs or law school. College offer four concentrations at Kent State, allowing students to explore a range of fields of study. Students may choose to concentrate in American Politics, International Relations & Comparative Politics, or Public Policy, or they may choose a “General” Political Science major. Regardless of concentration, political science majors study political and economic systems; policies that impact their daily lives; dynamics like social movements and economic shifts; events like war, revolution, and elections; and problems like human trafficking, drug cartels, and economic crisis.
The Public Policy concentration explores how governments address major questions such as health care, environmental protection, and foreign policy.
Graduates of this program will be able to:
- Demonstrate critical thinking and analysis skills;
- Demonstrate advanced written and oral communication skills;
- Understand national and international political affairs and governmental systems;
- Demonstrate multi-cultural literacy;
- Demonstrate competence with quantitative statistical analysis tools

The following required documents are:
- Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
- Academic records: The marks statement provided by the education board after completion of the previous academic qualifications.
- Three Letter of Recommendation: A recommendation letter should include information about the student, their connection with the person they are recommending, why they are qualified, and the specific skills they have.
- Statement of Purpose - This is an essay or any written statement written by the student while applying.
- Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores and Successful applicants typically provide a score in the 50th percentile.
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all educational institutions students have attended.
