Doctor of Philosophy [Ph.D] / Master of Public Health [M.P.H] [Health Informatics and Public Health] From University of Texas Health Science Center

The Doctor of Philosophy in health informatics/Master of Public Health (PhD/MPH) dual degree is a collaborative program between The University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics at Houston (SBMI) and The University of Texas School of Public Health (UTSPH). The PhD/MPH program will prepare students to integrate health informatics knowledge with public health skills in their professional lives as practitioners and researchers. Combining the PhD and MPH degrees prepares students to use the expertise and skills gained in the programs to address health care issues in communities, regions and populations via research.

The PhD/MPH dual degree program combines the MPH from the School of Public Health with the PhD degree from The University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics at Houston. The training and curriculum in the dual degree program are designed to provide students and future leaders in public health with the necessary skills to be leaders in the field of Public Health Informatics. This dual degree program provides an integrated curriculum that includes a number of shared courses as well as a practicum experience and/or the thesis topic in the area of public health informatics. The selection of specific academic programs and scheduling of specific courses, fieldwork and practica for individual students is guided by an advisory committee, which includes faculty from both institutions.
