Our faculty is committed to teaching, whether it be in large lecture courses with readings in English, or small seminars and language classes. The Department provides a rich array of courses both for majors and for students who may take only one or two of our offerings.

The research and teaching interests of our faculty and students are broad, covering not only Russia, but also parts of the EU, Poland and the Czech Republic, and encompassing literature and poetry as well as visual arts, theatre, and history. Some of our course offerings deal in depth with a single writer or problem, while others span a century and are interdisciplinary. Our curriculum includes courses ranging from Slavic core courses, including "Dostoevsky," "Tolstoy," and "Russian Film," to cross-disciplinary courses, such as ?Alternatives? taught by Slavic?s award-winning Professor Gary Saul Morson and Northwestern University?s President, Professor Morton Schapiro.
